Facts about IBM Notes on MAC

Mac has a 32-bit and a 64-bit installer

Notes on MAC is always installed as a Multi-user.

The Data directory for Notes is called differently depending on the version of

Notes.

* Lotus Notes Data for Notes 8.5.3 (and below)

* IBM Notes Data for Notes 9 (and above).

There is no Domino Administrator and Domino Designer for Mac.

Criteria for Notes on Mac OS X Installation & Upgrade

The install kit for Notes on Apple Mac OS X consists of the following:

Notes installation Meta-package (.mpkg)

Uninstaller application

The installation program will detect and upgrade an existing Notes

installation to the current Notes installation.

If you are upgrading Notes, turn off all options in the Application Sharing

tab of the Shared System Preferences page.

You can install Notes in a multi-user environment. Single user install is not supported.

Installation and use of Notes on a USB drive is not supported for Notes standard configuration.

Notes roaming user does not support switching a user ID, as noted in the user interface response.

The destination path is fixed as /Applications/IBM Notes.app, user can not change it

Users must have administrator-level privileges to install. For cases in which administrative rights are not available, grant a user administrator privileges.

2. Locate and run the installation executable.

3. Read the Welcome screen and

click Continue.

4. Read the install information

Technotes for Mac OS X Installation & Upgrade on Notes

1. Open the Terminal Application and Navigate to the Notes Install Kit directory.

2. Type the following command:

sudo Installer –pkg <package name> -target <destination volume>

<destination volume> is the root path of logic/physical volume name wherein the typical value is "/" which means current volume

If the value is set to "-target /", Notes will be installed as "/Applications/IBM Notes.app"

How To SILENT Install Notes on Mac OS X

IBM highly recommends to uninstall Notes using the uninstaller application supplied with the Notes install media. Both methods preserve user data.

1. Using the out of the box uninstaller provided by IBM

IBM Notes Mac installer was modified to function on Yosemite and the 9.0.1.

Known issues with Notes and ICAA on MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and Touch ID:

• Intermittent failures when browsing for Notes ID

• Unable to close Notes or ICAA other than by issuing a Force Quit

• Notes or ICAA crashes when a server is selected in the File > Open Application dialog

• Setup/configuration of a fresh Notes installation fails

• Notes password prompt dialog disappears, resulting in the error message "Wrong Password (Passwords are case sensitive - be sure to use correct upper and lower case).“

1. Identify if it’s a crash, hang or delay.

Crash – A legit crash has a pop up window and it generates an NSD automatically.

Hang – Screen is unresponsive.

Delay – A performance issue when an action is taking longer than it should to

respond.

2. Reproduce the issue in Basic mode by adding UseBasicNotes=1 in the Notes

preferences.

3. If the issue is NOT reproducible in basic mode:

> cd /Applications/"IBM Notes.app"/Contents/MacOS/

> ./Notes -RPARAMS -RESETCONFIG -CLEAN

4. If the issue persists, you can try recreating the entire Expeditor folder.

5. If the owner of the "Lotus Notes Data" or "IBM Notes Data" folder is not the user that is launching the client, the client will fail to launch.

To change the owner of this folder, use these commands:

>sudo chown -R USERNAME ~/Library/”Application Support”/Lotus\ Notes\ Dataor for Notes 9.0:

>sudo chown -R USERNAME ~/Library/”Application Support”/IBM\ Notes\ Data

6.If the user's name has a space in it, you can use the format First- Initial- Last Name for the USERNAME. Example: User Name = Test User

>sudo chown -R TUser ~/Library/”Application Support”/Lotus\ Notes\ Data

Collecting Crash Stack1. Navigate to the folder: /Users/<username>/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

The files are like “Eclipse_<date time>_<host name>.crash” or “Notes_<date time>_<host name>.crash”

Note: Unlike Notes on Windows, the crash stack of Mac Notes will not be included in NSD file. Mac OS handles the crash stack itself.
