Cell Phones Will Read Our Minds

Advanced “presence” technology will give handheld devices the ability to automatically learn about your preferences and know where you are.

Presence technology could direct you to the closest branch of your bank, or even recommend a nearby restaurant you’d like.

Mobile Devices Learn Users’ Locationand Preferences

Norway's largest telecom company, Telenor, is testing technology to allow mobile devices and networks to learn about users' whereabouts and preferences as they commute, work and travel.

Telenor plans to improve its service by using the knowledge of where

its users are located and automate routine operations.

The system - known as PASTA -- uses sensors like GPS and processing software to filter information and uses the important events to adapt to the user's preferences.

Complete “presence” awareness

Infrastructure works with a variety of wireless  networks - GSM, GPS, RFID and Wi-fi, for example.

The 2006 Census Bureau report : people are migrating out of major cities and moving into counties 40 or more miles away from major cities.

Healthcare cost crisis continues to develop

• A significant percentage of developing world populations have virtually no access to meaningful healthcare, especially due to lack of transportation.

Benefits of Remote Healthcare

A patient could take her blood pressure at home and then an authorized care provider could securely access the results through a cell phone.

• IBM and its partners are working on remote healthcare technologies.

• Imagine if a doctor could monitor a patient’s health remotely
