vivantofthear:standhismodelthatwilllastfortheen:resix‐monthsoftheBiennale,alongwithamonumentalvideoandmusicinstalla:on.ItwillbepresentedinthePalazzoMichieldalBrusà,a14th‐centurypalazzoontheGrandCanalneartheRialto,whichhasservedastheIcelandicPavilionsince2007.TransformingthePavilionintoamakeshiUstudiofortheBiennale,KjartanssonwillrelentlesslypainttheportraitofayoungmanposingdayaUerdayagainstthebackdropoftheGrandCanal.TheyoungmanmodelingforhimwillbesmokingcigareVesanddrinkingbeer,whileclothedonlyinabathingsuit.Forsixmonths,Kjartanssonwilllimithisartproduc:ontothepain:ngofthisscene.HewillproduceoneworkaUertheother,withthepain:ngsmadeonpreviousdaysleUtoaccumulateinpilesaroundthestudio.Thoughnotanidealizedversionofthear:standhismodel–suchaproposalbeingdisruptedbytheincongruousappearanceoftheSpeedo,thecigareVes,andthebeerinanotherwiseroman:cseZng–theperformanceispar:allybasedonques:onsofthear:st’sself,sugges:nghisperpetualre‐conceptualiza:oninrela:ontohissurroundingsandpreviouslyexis:ngworksofart.
