Electrons hold the atoms together to form molecules.

Atoms are the smallest particles of the elements. There are over 100 different atoms. They are very, very, very small and yet they contain even smaller particles called electrons, neutrons and protons. Atoms bond to make molecules.

Atoms: The building blocks of matter, the smallest particles of an element.

Protons: small particles in the nucleus of an atom. They have a positive charge.

Neutrons: small particles in the nucleus of an atom. They have no charge.

Electrons: tiny particles of an atom that move around the nucleus. They have a negative charge.
