WIE Mission and Vision:

Mission: Inspire, engage, encourage, and empower IEEE women worldwide.

Vision: A vibrant community of IEEE women and men innovating the world of tomorrow.

WIE Scopes of Interest

Scopes of InterestScope 1: Facilitate the development of programs

and activities that promote the entry into and retention of women in engineering programs.

Scope 2: Promote IEEE membership and retention of IEEE women members.

Scope 3: Enhance the career advancement of women in the profession.

IEEE Women in Engineering: RECOGNIZES women's outstanding achievements in electrical and electronics

engineering,

ORGANIZES receptions at major technical conferences to enhance networking and to promote membership in WIE

ADVOCATES women in leadership roles in IEEE governance

PROVIDES assistance with the formation of new WIE Affinity Groups and supports ongoing activities

ADMINISTERS the IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program to mentor young women in junior high school and high school

PROMOTES member grade advancement

FACILITATES the development of programs and activities that promote the entry into and retention of women in engineering programs

WIE Committee Organizational Chart

Role of WIE Regional Coordinator Act as a liaison between the Region and the WIE Committee Participate in WIE Committee meetings and report to the Region Director at regional

meetings on WIE status and activities Inform WIE Committee of local activities that might be of interest to the WIE

membership Facilitate the establishment of local IEEE WIE Affinity Groups within a Section

and/or Society, including student branches, in the regional area. Support Section Chairs in the establishment of WIE Groups helping identify

volunteers and training them. Maintain an advisory relationship with the local WIE Affinity Group and provide

guidance such as, new initiatives or assistance in the procurement of funds for activities that support the objectives of RAB

Provide support and guarantee that the WIE Groups in the Region maintain a good level of activity.

Be responsible for a permanent edition of an article or series of articles in whateverpublication the Region offers, both online and print.

Support the Membership Activities Vice Chair by supporting WIE scope of interest no.3: “Increase the participation of women within IEEE.”

Support WIEC activities and programs at the regional level Gather information of status of IEEE women members in the Region and

disseminate it.

1. Make existing WIE AGs more successful Increasing the number of WIE members and

volunteers Increase WIE member participation in Section

and Regional governance Increase WIE members participation in

technical societies Increase attendance of WIE members at IEEE

sponsored conferences

Encourage Regional WIE AGs to work closely with GOLD, PACE and SAC

Encourages new members to join WIE Provide opportunities for co-sponsorship of

professional development and networking sessions.

Region 1 WIE Meetings

One in-person meeting per year (Region 1 Joint SAC/GOLD/WIE Conference in NJ)

Quarterly Teleconferences Monthly activity reports-current activities,

future activities, needs (funding, manpower, etc.)

Visits to each Section to present on the value of forming WIE Affinity Group

Region 1 WIE website

Links to all Region 1 AGs websites Link to WIE newsletter and WIE magazine

(premier issue introduced January 2008) List of Regional women speakers

available for both technical and professional development talks
