Hello World! (in HTML)

A message from our sponsor“HERE'S TO THE CRAZY ONES. THE MISFITS. THE REBELS.

THE TROUBLEMAKERS. THE ROUND PEGS IN THE SQUARE

HOLES. THE ONES WHO SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY.

THEY'RE NOT FOND OF RULES. AND THEY HAVE NO

RESPECT FOR THE STATUS QUO. YOU CAN QUOTE THEM,

DISAGREE WITH THEM, GLORIFY OR VILIFY THEM. ABOUT

THE ONLY THING YOU CAN'T DO IS IGNORE THEM.

BECAUSE THEY CHANGE THINGS. THEY PUSH THE HUMAN

RACE FORWARD. AND WHILE SOME MAY SEE THEM AS

THE CRAZY ONES, WE SEE GENIUS. BECAUSE THE

PEOPLE WHO ARE CRAZY ENOUGH TO THINK THEY CAN

CHANGE THE WORLD, ARE THE ONES WHO DO.”

My weird, wonderful, unplanned, fascinating, fabulous, and totally unforeseen career in the ICT industry 1997 to 2013Carlos CorderoRoom 9 Ltd and lots of others placesWarning! This keynote is likely to rent the space-time continuum due to an abuse of literary and visual devices. If the screen starts to flicker, evacuate the building in an orderly fashion.

<--------------------- FIRST CLUE

SECOND CLUE||V

I am normalReally! Really, Really, Really! yeah right!

A FEW FACTS I have always had an interest in many things. [Learn]

I learnt to program/code when I was 13. I stopped (not by my choice) and know I have to learn all over again [Learn]

I did not study a “traditional” technology career. I am not an engineer, computer scientist, or developer. [Learn]

I have two degrees: business and teaching. Next year I will start my third at University of Waikato: graphic design. :-) [Learn]

I have a 4 year old son who is in the autistic spectrum (we are PC and he is a Mac - wired differently). [Learn]

I have lived in NZ since January 2007 (2 RWC). [Learn]

my career has taken me places and i made friendsPeru, Chile, Argentina, Brasil, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan. More to come...

If I ask you “What do you want to become?”, it is highly likely (>0.80) you have not figured it our yet.

And that is fine. You will figure it out in your own time. No hurry.

But if I ask you “What do you love?” or “What do you like to do?”, it is also highly likely (>0.999) that you know the answer and that you like/love more than one thing.

Now, we will figure out together how ICT can help you get there...(you need to get in a circle because we will play a game).

Almost final words

BE passionate ABOUT THE THINGS YOU LIKE AND LOVE

(YES, INCLUDING THE OCCASIONAL SNOGGING)

DON’T BE AFRAID TO experiment

AND TO TAKE intelligent RISKS.

ICT has enabled and driven some of the most radical and fast advances in human history since WWII.

You can play a part in it (if you pursue an ICT career) or benefit from it (if you remain interested and keep the hobby). I have done both. You can too.

Choose what you love. Stick with it.

Thank you! :)
