By: Max Tucker

Positive Impacts of British Rule

Indians were exposed to Western culture. They were given access to new

technological advances. Indians were given a foothold in world

trade, as they often were employed by British officials.

They were given a united identity when rebelling against the British.

They learned military tactics as sepoys under British Command.

Negative Impacts Associated with Imperialism in India

Many sovereign Indian kingdoms were destroyed.

In the sepoy rebellion, thousands of people were killed, both Indians and British citizens.

Indian resources were often exploited for British profit.

Indians lost the ability to self govern, they had no say in the way they were ruled.

Impacts of Colonization Today

Indian culture has undoubtedly been shaped by British colonization.

Today, many Indians speak English and play games introduced by the British, such as Cricket.

The British were certainly heavily influenced, tea and curry, common foods and beverages in England today, were initially consumed in India.
