Indigenous Culture

Wagaman students participate each term from week 5-10 in Indigenous Culture classes. Our Indigenous families value this opportunity for

students to connect with their culture.

We used the skills of our local families to come share their cultural knowledge. Elah Yunupingu taught us about the Yolgnu culture with making spears (Gara), Clap Sticks (Bilma), Brolga dance

(Gudurrku) and Ochre body painting.

We were also lucky enough to have Ms Alice Walnapya come in and demonstrate Pandanas

Weaving (Gunga Dajama) and even show us how to dye the pandanus with the colours.
