Interior Design Projectfor Graphic Design

What Is Interior Design?

• Interior Design is the profession that focuses on the layout, design and beautification of interior spaces, buildings and other structures. Interior designers work in a wide range of settings, including residential, commercial, hospitality and institutional environments. Many interior designers receive formal training from Interior Design degree programs, such as the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design.

Types of Interior Design and Approaches It is common for Interior Design professionals to

specialize in only one area of design, but many interior designers are choosing to focus on both commercial and residential Interior Design. Although designers and clients often look for fresh concepts and a new look, many stick with basic Interior Design styles that are casual, formal, traditional and contemporary. Some other areas of specialization include:

• Interior Design for accessibility • Health & safety issues • Green, sustainable Interior Design • Lighting design

Contemporary (Modern)

• Contemporary Design sparks an exciting feeling of change, and is characteristic of present day movements in style. Clean lines, fluid shapes, graphic motifs, and modern materials like acrylic and plywood are common materials, as are glass, stone, and metals. Minimalist and Zen styles are two of the themes that are associated with contemporary design.

Traditional Design

• Traditional Design pulls from our past and brings a feeling of formality and history into our homes. There are many types of styles that fall under the traditional category, but all are considered of historic origin from America and Europe. These styles usually match the period from which they came: Victorian, Baroque, Queen Anne, Sheraton, and Louis XIV are all examples of historic themes.

Eclectic Design• Eclectic Design can be a hard style to

define and create, because it can be a mish-mash of various collections and furnishings the client may have and love, or it may be the whim of an eccentric artistic client that has a look in mind that is unique to their personality. This can also be a great style for newly weds who are trying to integrate their furnishings into one space.

A Design Board is often used in the interior design world so that the client and design can visualize their ideas.

We will be creating a design board for your room using the website http://www.polyvore.comThis will help set up your color schemes, textures, and furniture for your room. Worth 20 point.

• You can save all your items in My Items list which will then connect you to the website for your objects.

• You can deviate from your Polyvore design board, but this is a great starting point
