This Christmas season is a good time to give a gift that can truly change a life! Through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries:

Families in disaster areas will receive food and shelter Health care can be better provided The persecuted Christians may find safety Farmers can harvest better healthy crops Clean water will help decrease the spread of disease Support help to Refugees/Immigrants Christ’s Love will be made known

What more wonderful way to express your love than with a gift that truly makes

a difference? This gift can be made through a Sunday School Class, a teen group, a Bible Study group, or individually. Your monetary gift will help those who need it most to feel

the loving touch of Christ this season. You can go to ncm.org/projects and you will find many different areas to which your gift can be designated. Note: All gifts given go 100% to the project you select.

As I sat watching as people gathering for worship last Sunday, my mind was

turned to the nature of the world in which we live. Our society offers so many questions, and so few answers. We are left to wrestle with wheth-er the greatest threat to our well-being is found in the danger of some international conflict, or simply the internal violence and abuses of power that rule the day. As people try to figure out life they are not sure who they can trust. They are uncomfortable with those who would suggest that we are a society that is coming unraveled so rather than sounding an alarm many are content to simply identify this as the ‘new normal’. They don’t seem to understand that in embracing that thought they have given into the hopelessness which believes that life is meant to be lived in the dark. But as the worship service began I was con-fronted by the words from Isaiah 9:2 which de-

clare that “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” Standing in great contrast to the attitude of the world I came face-to-face with the expectation of Advent. The coming of Christ radically changes everything about my perspective, for in the One identified as the “Light of the world” we are of-fered hope. His power frees us from a life dom-inated by fear and His Presence reveals how we might experience and express true love. Every day we can see glimpses of His ‘light’ reflected in our lives and can look forward with expectation to the moment when its splendor will consume all darkness. With that in view my prayer for you this Christmas is that you will fully know the Light of Christ and as He shines in you, may you become a beacon of hope to the world.
