Representation

Representation – How groups, individuals, institutions, places or social changes are portrayed in the media; how they are re - presented.

The way someone or something is represented is not reality.

It is a version of reality.

Representations are subjective rather than objective and are constructed.

Representation

RealityThe real world

MediationThe process of

producing a media text.

RepresentationThe text itself.

A ‘representation’

of the real world.

Discuss this with the people sitting next to you.

Not all men/women look or present themselves like this. The producers believed these would be popular/sellable images of men/women so chose these representations over other possible ones.
