What have we done so far?

Agreed the process for quality improvement and accreditation

Developed, consulted and piloted the standards and criteria

Developed the material beneath the standards (in some disciplines this is still progress)

Developed and piloted the Self Assessment and Improvement Tool (SAIT)

Raised the profile of quality in physiological science services

Appointed an accreditation preferred provider (UKAS)

Scoring mostly B’s

Upload evidence

Experts and lay assessing service against the standards

Assessors will either approve for site visit or suggest an action plan

If pass this requires maintenance

Under discussion possibly - a four year cycle with a yearly SAIT census

Outcome may be; pass, conditional accreditation or deferred

The standards

Development began late 2009 (based on ISAS standards)

Specialism specific working groups and the cross-discipline Accreditation Clinical Advisory Group (ACAG) were formed

Grounded in evidence and outcome based standards and material were drafted by ACAG and the working groups

The material was piloted

A public consultation has been carried out

5. Any Qualified Provider

Summary of AQP timelines published for adult audiology services:

• have submitted an application for IQIPS accreditation by 31 March 2012

• have completed the IQIPS Self Assessment & Improvement Tool for adult hearing services by 30 June 2012

• be IQIPS adult hearing service accredited no later than 31 September 2012

What’s next?

• Launch the SAIT – audiology in March, phased across other disciplines

• Recruit assessors• Train assessors (3 day residential course) • Launch of Accreditation in Spring 2012

Why bother?

• Local leverage/Raising the profile • Validate and recognise success • Driving up quality • NHS Choices – information for patients• Any Qualified Provider• Promote sharing of good practice• Bringing together services• CQC and equivalents• Interest from commissioners• Evidence for CPD/revalidation • Political drive

Any questions?
