Friends of the Burbank Public Library Celebrates 35th Years
Over the past 35 years many gaps in the Burbank Public Library’s operating budget
has been filled by the energetic fundraising efforts of the all-volunteer Friends. This
has allowed the Library to keep up with changing technologies. An Apple computer
for public use was one of the first major purchases funded by the Friends. Burbank
was one of the first libraries to offer compact discs to the public. A VHS video rental
collection was established with a donation by the Friends, and when DVDs began to
replace the videocassette, the Friends supplied the seed money to start buying the
new format for movies. Most recently, the Friends provided the start-up funds for the
library’s E-Book collection and new educational databases.
Since 1980, the Friends of the Burbank Public Library have raised over $2.7 million to
enhance library service to the community. And now it’s time to celebrate!
Join us on Saturday, September 26 for an afternoon of family fun starting with a
comedy/magic performance by Joel Ward at 1:30 PM. A light Chocolate Decadence
Buffet will be offered at 3:00 PM, immediately followed by a book talk by mystery
author Daryl Wood Gerber. Ms. Gerber will discuss Fudging the Books, her latest
cozy mystery in the Cookbook Nook series. Books will be available for purchase and
signing. The festivities will be held at the Buena Vista Branch Library.
Go to BurbankLibrary.com/about/friends for more information.
The Friends have a quarterly newsletter to keep you informed of their events,
meetings, and volunteer opportunities. If you would like their newsletter emailed to
you, just send a request to FriendsBurbankLibrary@gmail.com.
