Monday Morning Announcements at DuJardin
Principal’s Post...
Thanks to the DuJardin PTO for sponsoring Holiday Magic where students can shop for gifts for family. Students enjoy this annual
event and the chance to purchase gifts for others. Tis the season for giving! Some great pictures on the next page.
What an AWESOME turnout for Fruit with Family on Wednesday morning. Students and family members were able to enjoy some
fruit, juice, muffins and great conversation. Thanks to the DuJardin Student Council and sponsors, Mrs. Lents and Mrs. Burritt, for
sponsoring such a great event. See you again in April for our next Fruit with Family!
During our Early Release/School Improvement session on Wednesday afternoon K-5 teachers worked on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) successes and challenges so far this school year, K-8 articulation regarding the scope and sequence of the STEMscopes science program, and the ordering of any necessary science resources and materials. Fine arts and support services team members worked on individual plans that align with school improvement goals. This time provided each month to improve teaching and learning in D13 and at DuJardin School is greatly appreciated and makes a big difference in our professional development as a staff.
On Tuesday DuJardin’s 4th and 5th grade chorus
led by Mrs. Novotny and Mrs. Petelle and
supervised by Mrs. Kastory took their show on
the road and performed for the residents at both
the Lakeview Memory Care and at Sunrise Senior
Living. The students did a wonderful job singing
and bringing joy to the residents at both
facilities. The students also enjoyed a great meal
for lunch at Red Robin at Stratford Square Mall.
A great time was had by all!
Thanks to all the families that gave to our Toys for Tots collection and/or our Giving Twee! Your generosity is very much appreciated and will bring happiness to others this holiday season. There is still time to bring in a gift
- both collections ends on Friday, December 15.

Winter Break
Monday, January 8 School Resumes
During the month of December, we have had students revisit their fall MAP scores for Literacy and Math and created goals for
winter MAP performance. We are excited to see the impact the new literacy tool,
ReadyGen, will have on student academic performance. It is our hope that the
program has stretched students to think deeper and transfer their learning to a variety of situations. Please talk to your students about their MAP performance.
While the MAP RIT number is an easy way for us to determine student academic growth, it is also important to discuss the strategies
and take-aways your students have realized based on their performance.
Working together to set goals for Winter to Spring and working together at
home to improve student learning is a powerful way to support your children. This is also a great way to emphasize a growth
mindset. By discussing goals and performance with your children, you can
encourage them to keep trying and brainstorm different ways they can improve
as learners. In addition, being aware of topics, skills, and strategies being taught in the classroom will help you better support
your children’s learning. Feel free to contact your children’s classroom teachers if you
need information on what they are learning and ask how you can best support them at
home.

It is hard to believe that Christmas break has arrived. This year, we are lucky to enjoy a full week off after the holiday festivities. Two to
three hours of educational engagement such as reading, STEM activities, visiting a
museum or library, or park district programs will help keep your student sharp and ready to return to school for the New Year! Set a time in the morning for your child to spend
30 minutes reading or doing math. Students are used to being focused in the morning at school and this continuity will help not only
with supporting learning, but also with supporting positive behavior. Providing an incentive for focused work would be a fun
way to reward your child as well. If incentives aren’t your thing, try spending time with your child reading. Be creative and read in a tent,
explore a museum and be sure to read the signs in the exhibit, or have a learning
challenge! No matter what you do, any time spent reading and exploring will support
your child’s learning and make the return to school in 2018 much easier.
Take a Break...but Don’t Take a Break from Reading!
Have a wonderful holiday break and we look forward to seeing your
students in 2018!
