Trauma c Stress Support Group:
Veterans across the United States suf-fer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. When suffering from this stress disorder a Veteran is not able to function correct-ly in returning to the structures of life. They are jobless, homeless, and hope-less. You may be sitting next to a Vet-eran in Sunday morning worship that is in need. If you are interested in learn-ing how to help or are in need of guid-
ance, please contact us, at cbethea@libertylive.com. We meet on Tuesday nights to discuss biblical solu-
tions for hope and healing.
From the Prison Ministry: Christmas day was one of the best I have every had in this ministry. All the men were surprised to see me, and my friend John. Not many peo-‐ple expected us to go visit on Christmas Day. Some men from one cell block told me that a young man who was rela vely new in the jail needed to speak to me. They had already been witnessing to him, but he had not yet come to the faith. I took 20-30 minutes to tell him my story and why I believe in my faith and that Jesus was real, but it was up to him to make a decision, to accept, or reject . He said that from my story and how I spoke of the truth of Jesus, he was ready to accept Jesus. You can’t do be er than being with someone as they are being saved on Christmas Day!
We are excited for what God has for 2013 here in the mission department. This coming year we have great opportuni es for trips, ways to serve within
the communi es, and special events.
Happy New Year

Building Long Term Rela onships with the Navajo Words from Shane on Local Missions:
This past Christmas several ministries of our church joined together to make a difference in our community. Club FX started a joint project which was called the Big Give. This event involved children from the ages of kindergarten to fi h grade, and their families. They donated toys for underprivileged children under the age of 12. The youth group took the donated toys, wrapped them and then delivered the presents to the Boys and Girls club. The youth retold the Christmas story through reenactment and music. God’s presence was felt throughout the whole night. Some of the older siblings decided to hold onto
their gi s to give to their siblings that were not there that night. It was a great night and another step in a con nual process of transforma on within the Boys and Girls Club.
New Year’s Resolu ons New Year’s resolu ons are a good start, but o en mes not kept. We want to
change our lives for the be er. Only 45% of Americans actually make a New Year’s resolu ons, and of those only 8% successfully meet their goal. That speaks vol-‐
umes about the American culture. We can get so consumed with our busy schedules, that most of us do not care to change. We lack convic on within our lives for the
need to change. As I read God’s Word I cannot help but no ce that change is everywhere. Abra-‐
ham changed from a life of luxury to becoming a nomad, Joseph changed from a slave to second over all of pharaoh’s land, Moses changed from a shy shepherd to the leader of God’s chosen people, and Peter changed from a simple fisherman to the rock which the church stands on. It seems God’s work is about change in our lives, even beyond our original transforma on. Therefore we should be disciplined to persevere through to the end of that change. Paul gives us an image in 2 Timothy 4 of running, but most importantly, finishing the race which encapsulates God’s view of change. That is how
important it is to finish the transforma on that has already begun in our lives. It is funny to me that every year, on nearly every top 10 New Year’s resolu on
list, people desire to help others more. What a strange thought for the secular world to desire to want to effect change in others. Our Creator designed within us something special, something that will change lives forever and that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As the 2013 year lies before us, it is my prayer that the body of Christ would be diligent
about finishing the change that Christ has begun in us and the desire to begin that same change in others. Email me shess@libertylive.com to see how you can change
this community.
Here is a story of an example of the long term rela onship we are trying to build with the Navajo. Connie and her family have had a great impact on Alex’s life and have remained constant spiritual and accountability partners for four years. This is their story of their rela onship, it all started by a trip: July of 2008, God brought together Alex Hudson and Connie Kennedy. When we met Alex he was a quiet and shy young man. Through our trips out there, we were able to make a connec on with Alex. When we le to return home, we remained in constant contact with Alex. It has been four years and s ll going strong. Alex has since joined the Marine Corp and is currently training in Richmond. We went to have lunch with him and it truly solidified our re-‐la onship with Alex. We thought we were suppose to be the blessing to Alex, but in reality God has blessed us with Alex.
