Message from Principal Monica Jacobson Message from Principal Monica Jacobson
Message from Principal Monica Jacobson Tis the Season!
It is the time of year where the hustle and bustle of life tends to be more intense as the
year comes to a close. We are often in the midst of finalizing tasks while seeking new pos-
sibilities for ourselves and making time for others. Within the J.H. Rose community, the
same dynamic is witnessed as our students march towards the close of a semester. Stu-
dents realize that as the new year approaches, they still have goals to accomplish and
must maintain their course. All the while, our students set aside time to be there for their
peers and others alike.
Over the last few weeks, our students have been involved in many events not only show-
casing their abilities and talents, but involving themselves in the community. Most recent-
ly, students in DECA attended the Marketing Competitive Events Conference. Awards re-
ceived by JHR students included first place trophies for three students and a second place
trophy for another. Students were also recognized with numerous medals and certificates
of proficiency. Earlier in the month, students in our arts program participated in the Mar-
garet L. Blount Memorial Art Competition. JHR awards included third and fourth place
wins and two honorable mentions.
At J.H. Rose and throughout the community, you may have found many of our students
performing. Several groups, including the band, JROTC and volleyball team were in the
Greenville Christmas parade. The band held many other recent events including its Winter
concert. The Blue and Green jazz bands have performed at several events sponsored by
the Family Support Network. The Orchestra conducted its winter performance and also
participated in Uptown’s First Friday Artwalk. Our chorus students attended ECU’s Choral
Day and held its annual Sounds of the Season concert. As admission to the concert, the
chorus hosted a canned food drive to benefit our local community.
Within our community, the Salvation Army annually accepts the help of Rose students in
its collection drive. Students from many of our athletic teams, along with DECA, Anchor
Club, Dream Team and SGA members served as bell ringers at various Greenville locations.
Beyond the many listed events, our students are routinely participating in various activi-
ties to support their interests and abilities; however, it is important to many of them to
connect their passion to others. Rose offers our students the opportunity to make these
connections and encourages their innovation to create opportunities that do not currently
exist. It takes all of us to make these opportunities happen!
I wish each of you a safe and happy Holiday season!!!
For your reflection:
“Children are the Priority. Change is the Reality. Collaboration is the Strategy.”

The Advisory Council Congratulates
Mrs. Angie Byrne Recipient of the December 2014 Rampant Spirit Pride Award
Advisory Council
Congratulations, Mrs. Byrne, and thank you for all you do for Rose!
Advisory Council extends the Rampant Spirit Award each month to a faculty/staff member who exemplifies enthusiasm and dedication
to Rose, its students and its mission. To nominate a recipient, please speak to an Advisory Council member
(Mary Naziri, Barbara Dominick, Heather Eveleth, Melissa Lebo, Kirsten Lewis, Leigh Sypawka, Marvin Williams) or email us at
jhradvisorycouncil@gmail.com
Despite life dealing Ms. Byrne some major health obstacles, she chooses to fight the good fight and conquer these obstacles with a great deal of fortitude. She also chooses to share her journey with J. H. Rose High School. As she continues to teach Health Science from the text book, she also teaches life lessons through her everyday perseverance. In one of her very own handpicked quotes ,she sums up her refreshing spirit:
“Good timber does not grow with ease; the stronger the wind, the stronger the trees." (Willard Marriott)
We can all learn the very definition of spirit in all aspects of life as taught to us by our very own teacher here at J.H.Rose Highschool. Ms. Angie Byrne, quite simply said, "keeps on keeping on" despite being dealt a bad hand. Indeed, she embodies the Rampant Spirit that gives all of us an edge we need to conquer obstacles
that we may incur. We are both blessed and lucky to have her at J.H.Rose Highschool!
The December Rampant Spirit award goes
to an individual who, despite being hit with
many obstacles, still continues to keep the
Rampant spirit first and foremost in her
soul. She has been critically challenged and
has managed to keep the rampant spirit
intact. Therefore, Ms. Jacobson, along with
Advisory Council, awards Ms. Ange Byrne
with the Rampant spirit award for her
fighting spirit inside and outside the walls of
J.H.Rose High School! She not only talks the
talk, but she walks the walk!
Her unflappable spirit perhaps
is the best lesson for her students!
