MCCAREN PARK LONG SPAN NATATORIUM
The aim of the project was to revitalize the battered McCarren Park Pool. The program oriented design expanded the use of the building to house other sporting facilities, dance studios, and community classrooms based on in depth research of the communities needs and wants. With the assistance of consultants from Arup, the design included a proper MEP system and a space frame roof structurederived from fabric studies.

DESIGN-BUILD $100K HOUSE: EARTH BERM PROTOTYPE
Inspired by Karrie Jacobs’ book The Perfect $100K House, the goal of the studio was to design a house for under $100/sf that was eco-friendly and inviting to live in. The studio was divided into prototypes; this project displays the earth berm prototype. Shipping containers were used for their structure, water proof-ing, aggregatability, and over all cost effectiveness. Used tires and other products were reused to reduce cost and add to the design.

DESIGN-BUILD $100K HOUSE: FINAL DESIGN
The course was continued the the next semester as a construction documents class for a select few students. Work was split up between the team based on experience. With the help of our sponsor Richard Reinhardt, we chose aspects of the prototypes to redesign the house. A trip to an architectural salvage yard in Vermont provided input for the final design. The reused materials from the salvage yardlowered the cost and shipping distance. The project was published; in the May ‘09 edition of Residential Architect

D.U.M.B.O. MIXED-USE HOUSING
With materiality and sustainable strategies derived from investigations of threshholds, a duplex and single floor unit were designed. The aggregation strategy provided the apartments with southern exposure and a reflection of the surrounding architecture on the commercial side. The balconies of the two unit types extend and open up into the heart of the unit.

PERFORMATIVE LIGHT CANOPY
Fabric and form were the main concentrations of this project. The idea was to design a performative surfaces using the properties of fabric provided by the sponsor, Sperry Sails. Once the group was given a site and program, we settled on a design that would cater to the part spiritual and meditative, part gathering space
purpose of the site. Indepth studies of sails and tensile structures futher influenced the design.
Fabrication drawings eventually came to fruition after an understanding of the engineering involved. The Light Canopy was featured in the November '09 issue of Fabric Architecture magazine.
