Selection of productsJORDAHL offers the channelsystem suitable for all appli-cations of building con-struction and civil engineer-ing.The choice of channeldepends upon:• load direction
(for full loading criteria pages 8 to 12)
• type of load (static or dynamic page 15)
• fire protection require-ments ( page 15)
PlanningChannel selection shouldoccur at the design stageand their type, length andlocation should be includedin the concrete reinforce-ments drawings.Ideally not only the liveloads, but also future stressdue to reconstruction phasesshould be taken into consid-eration.

On site Assembly
CuttingChannels can also be cut tothe required length on site. The following should benoted:• Each channel piece must
have at least two anchors• The cut may only be made
up to 25 mm following ananchor
Fastening to the formworkJORDAHL channels shouldbe installed at the requiredposition and flush with theconcrete surface. In order toavoid displacement duringthe process of applying con-crete, the channels arefastened to the formwork.
Fastening variations• Pre punched holes in the
back of channels allow fornailing to timber formwork(see illustration)
• Nailing to the channelswith tacks or staples
• Use of sealant if unevenformwork leaves unaccept-able gaps (see illustration)
• Using JORDAHL ‘T’ boltsand nuts fixings to the steelformwork can be achieved
• Using magnetic fixings tothe steel formwork
Channel infillAfter removing the form-work the channel is cleanedon the outside to removeresidue. The channel fillingwhich prevented penetrationof new concrete should beremoved. For this purpose ahammer, spanner or a hookcan be used.
Locking of ‘T’ bolts into channelAttaching components,e.g. angles should be pre-assembled with JORDAHL‘T’ bolts, washers and nuts. The JORDAHL bolt is insertedinto the channel slot. It isonly correctly located whenthe notch at the end of boltis at 90° to the channel slot. After adjustment, the nut canbe tightened to the requiredtorque.

The top edge of the channelshould be flush with theconcrete surface. If thechannel is recessed, the
detail is lined with a washerin accordance with the tablebelow.
For an offset assembly thedetail is subject to stressresulting from the bendingmoment in addition to pullout and resultant loads. Therefore, the selection ofthe correct bolt must take
the allowable bendingmoment ( page 35) intoconsideration.
The suitable washer isselected according to thetable below

Loadings
Channels can carry variousloads and disperse them inthe concrete. The loads aredifferentiated according to• direction of load• actual load• static and dynamic loads• load in case of fireThis information determinesselection of the correct chan-nel profile.
Load directionIn principle the loads are dif-ferentiated between loadsvertical to the channel andloads in a longitudinal chan-nel direction. The appliedload vertical to the channelare considered to have pullout and resultant loading. The allowable loads can dif-fer according to anchorspacing and strength of con-crete ( page 10 onwards). For loads in the longitudinaldirection of the channel,JORDAHL JZA toothed chan-nels should be used( page 22).
In a certain degree channelstransfer loads in longitudinaldirection by friction( page16).
All loads exerted on thechannel are dispersed via theanchors into the concrete. The following should be con-sidered:• choice of channel/anchor
depth• concrete strength• spacing of the channels to
the edge• thickness of component• required reinforcement.A reduction of edge spacingor the installation of asmaller component can beachieved with additionalreinforcement ( page 18).Without additional reinforce-ment a reduction of edgespacing is only possible if theload is reduced at the sametime.
Load DispersionLoad distributionThe allowable load of achannel depends on anchorand loading arrangement:• for single loads with
a maximum spacing of250 mm
• for load pairs with a spac-ing of ≥100 mm betweenthe components of theload pair and minimumspacing of 250 mmbetween two load pairs

JORDAHL Installation Fasteners
(3) The loading capacity of the ‘T’ bolts ( page 35) and the maximum pointof loading capacity shall be observed. Each lower value is applicable. Allloading capacities were calculated elastic-plastic acc. to DIN 18 800 (1/90)based on the following assumption: F = 1.4; MS = 1.15; calculated flowstress fy,K = 235 N/mm2; bending f ≤ l / 150 for steel.
We recommend the estimation of approx. 80% of the above specified valuesfor approximate calculation.

JTB Channels
Profiled metal sheet fixingchannels Type JTB enablequick assembly to reinfo-ced concrete componentsat favourable costs. Theanchors of the conventio-nal fastener channels wereoften difficult to insertinto the preliminarilyconnected reinforcingcages. The fixing channelsJTB-AR and JTB-uni byJORDAHL are easier to ins-ert into the provided rein-forcement due to theirslim anchor profiles.
Principles
ProductsA JTB fixing channel byJORDAHL is available to suiteach installation location andeach type of reinforcement. The type JTB-AR and JTB-uniare recommended especiallyfor reinforced components. The German Institute forConstruction Technologyapproved the JTB channelsunder official certificateNo. Z-21.4-161.
MaterialJTB channels by JORDAHLare manufactured from mildsteel according toDIN EN 10 025, hot dippedgalv. or stainless steel 1.4571or 1.4401 (A4).
Channel cross sections:60/24/3 or 60/22/6.
Available shapes and cutting to sizeThe profiled metal sheet fixing channels JTB-AR and JTB-uniare available in two standard variations (lengths in stock all 3 m).• channel designed to allow cutting in half without the need
for extra anchors,anchor spacing e: 3 x 450 mm, 1 x 150 mm and, 3 x 450 mm Order example: JTB 60/24/3-uni-450-A4
Installation and assemblyProfiled metal sheet fixingchannels with inserted foamfilling are cast into the con-crete so that the face ofchannel is flush with theloading concrete surface.Joints between two channelsshould be approx. 20 mm.The metal sheet is fastenedto the top of the channelwith appropriate fixings, e.g.self-tapping screws. Foam fil-ler inside the JTB channelprevents the screws frombeing damaged by the con-crete. The profiled metalsheet must be fastened inthe central third of the widthof the channel back. The axisof the screw must be at least25 mm from the channelend. The valid standards andregulations for profiled metalsheets and fastening means(DIN 18 807, Certificate No.Z-14.1-4) shall be observed.
• can be cut to suit, all anchor spacing at 150 mm, Order example: JTB 60/24/3-AR-150-fv
After cutting, if distance to last anchor exceeds 75 mm thenthere will be a need for end anchors ( page 46), if requiredthese may be fixed to sides of channel by self-tapping screws.

pre-fabricated components• applicable for wall thick-
ness of 80 –330 mm• easy to assembly and
handling
JBF reinforcement connec-tions meet the requirementsof DIN 1045 (7/88),Section 18.3.3 and the DBVguideline bending of reinfor-cement steel, in the 1991edition, whereby bendingreinforcement can only beutilized to 80% of their fullloading capacity. An official certificate is notnecessary.
Casing• zinc-coated mild steel• easy to open• waffle structured for opti-
mum transmission of thrust• flat profile shape for full
concrete casing
• sufficient profile width foreasy contact with bendingtools
Connection bar reinforce-ment• material: BSt 500 S acc. to
DIN 488• bending roller diameter on
bending locationdBR = 6 x dS

Applications
JORDAHL balcony fasten-ers are the ideal solutionfor subsequently fasteningbalconies to reinforcedconcrete in building con-struction.
JORDAHL Balcony Fasteners
Balcony fasteners in restoration works:Old reinforced concrete andplate constructions no longermeet the rising requirementsof design and insulation. When existing building frontsare restored, balconies arefrequently added; also exist-ing balconies frequently haveto be replaced due to exten-sive damage. Therefore the use of large-scale pre-fabricated concreteparts which arise on theirown foundations are especi-ally economical and of highquality. The vertical loads are trans-mitted into the foundation. For solid building substancethe arising horizontal forces, primarily due to wind pres-sure and suction, are trans-mitted into the loadingstructure of the building. The fastening point is usuallylocated in the area of insula-tion and can be only con-trolled with difficulty. Thechoice of material must, therefore, meet corrosionprotection requirements.
SystemThe fastening structure isdivided into the balconyconnection part for trans-ferring pull out and trans-verse tensile forces and pres-sure bolts for pressure forcetransmission. The balconyconnection part is boltedonto the anchor channel atthe edge of the balconyplate and bolted to the rein-forced concrete wall. Thepressure bolt ( page 43) islocated on the front sidebetween the balcony plateand the reinforced concretestructure, regardless of theposition of the balconyconnection part.
Design Benefits• Installation in available wall
plates which are relativelythin is possible
• Balances out setting andconstruction toleranceswith vertical and horizontaldisplacement
• High-grade corrosion pro-tection due to design instainless steel1.4571/1.4401 (A4)
Assembly Benefits• Quick assembly with only
slight disturbance of inha-bitants
• Immediate, positive forceconnection (threadedconnection)
• Low costs for protectivemeasures and scaffolding, because balcony plate canbe immediately used asworking platform.
Allowable LoadsVarious stages of balconyconnection parts are avail-able for various load andinstallation situations. Theyare designed for horzontalloads of 8 –14 kN pull outtensile stress and 2.5 – 5 kNtransverse tensile stress.
Balcony Fasteners for New BuildingsA balcony fastener of thesame or similar shape can beprovided also for new build-ing. A detailed plan is estab-lished based on the relatedobject. Please contact us, we willbe glad to assist you.

Facade Installation Components by JORDAHL SystemThe JORDAHL channelsystem for glass or metalclad facades was developedto withstand maximum verti-cal and horizontal loads.Depending on sectional cri-teria support solutions arebased on two principlemethods:1. Arm structure for force
transmitted on top face, close to edge by hori-zontal forces (wind) aswell as vertical forces (ownweight) and the thusresulting moments in thecover plate
2. Angular or clampingconnection for force trans-mitted on top face by pullout tensile stress (wind) inthe cover plate.
Benefits• Simple assembly and de-
signed adjustment offastening arms (allowingfor site tolerances)
• Fastener close to edge oron front side of slab
• Safe holding and transmis-sion of vertical and hori-zontal loads also in thincover plates. Single loadsup to 32 kN possible
• High dynamic loadingswith the use of hot-rolledchannel profiles with pro-ven continuously changingload of 7.0 kN
• Simple installation of thefastening system intovarious possible coverstructures, for example inreinforced corrugated con-crete covers or slim coverplates with invisible tra-pezoidal plate shells
Installation channels byJORDAHL for glass andmetal clad facades serve tofasten longitudinal andtransverse loads of thefacade and transmit theloads into the concrete.
The choice of channels (sin-gular or welded couplings),bracket sizes, materials andfinishes are designed to suitthe project loading require-ments.
