Day 1 for LC

• What does it mean?– All records, authority and bibliographic, will be

created in accordance with RDA beginning March 31, 2013

– Catalogers of special format materials not following RDA on March 31, 2013, must nevertheless create all authority records in accordance with RDA

Core Curriculum

• Taken from the LC RDA Training Plan where there are descriptions of the various courses.

Overseas Offices Training Plan

• Staff will primarily get their instruction through self-paced eLearning

• No face-to-face classroom instruction

• Live webinars conducted when all staff in an office have completed a given course

• Time frame for their training

Scope of LC Onsite RDA Training

• October 2011- about 40 staff members assisting with the test received refresher training to function as RDA catalogers

• June and July 2012- additional RDA resource staff, division chiefs, and section heads trained

• September 2012-March 30, 2013 - 60 staff members will receive RDA training each month

Scope of RDA Training for Overseas

• June –September 2012, Phase 1, staff will train themselves in the Toolkit, FRBR, and Authorities

• October 2012-March 2013, each of the six offices will be assigned a certain month to work with RDA instructors to learn the descriptive elements

Reviewing RDA Records

• Experienced RDA catalogers in the cataloging and acquisitions divisions will review the records of staff newly trained in RDA
