THE MEADOWLARK
Our new handyman, Vinny, has done a beautiful job on our patio at the clubhouse. All residents are welcome to come and sit on the patio for some sun or sit under the awning.
Our newsletter will be delivered after our 4th of July party. We wish to thank the committee for all their hard work.
Any personal items left in the clubhouse will be placed in the “lost and found” box located under the table.
If heating/air conditioning thermostat is raised or lowered in the clubhouse, the last person leaving should put it back to the original setting. Please turn off all lights.
No planters are to be hung on deck railings. No hanging plants are to be hung on railings, poles or lattice. Drying of clothing on deck or patio is prohibited. Any shareholder not following house rules will be fined.
Dumpsters are not to be used by contractors when doing renovation. Contractor must take all the debris away.
All apartments must have working smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. They must be maintained by the shareholder. Our handy man will replace batteries. You must supply the batteries and light bulbs.
The town will resume checking our blood pressure in the fall. The first date is Sept. 14th. Please put that on your calendar.
The board purchased an answering machine. Instead of writing in the book when you need something done, please call 516 496-2350. Leave your name, telephone number and unit number. Please state your request and Vinny, our handyman, will get back to you.
Any improvements in the unit must be kept according to the original floor plan.
Marie Sanzone wishes to thank all residents for their cards and get well wishes. She hopes to be home from rehab and join us as soon as possible.
Newcomers to the meadows: please do not back into your parking space. It is against health and safety rules.
Everyone enjoy the summer!

4th of July Facts
What animal did Benjamin Franklin supposedly prefer as the official national bird over the bald eagle?Benjamin Franklin is said to have wanted the wild turkey to be the national bird but was outvoted by both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. The bald eagle is a bird of prey native only to North America.
How many hot dogs are consumed, on average, at barbecues on the Fourth? The 4th of July and barbecues go hand-in-hand, so it's probably no surprise that over an estimated 150 million hot dogs are consumed in the United States each Independence Day. Break that down and that's roughly one hot dog for every two people in the U.S.
What year was the 4th of July first celebrated at the White House? The first recorded 4th of July celebrations were in 1777 on the one-year anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. The first 4th of July party held at the White House wasn't until 1801, when it was held by President Thomas Jefferson.
Why were the stars on the original American flag arranged in a circle? The 13 stars on the American flag were arranged in a circle to represent equality between the original thirteen colonies. Although there were several versions of the early flag, including one with the stars arranged in vertical lines, the "Betsy Ross flag," which depicts the stars in a circle, was the most popular.
When was the 4th of July declared a national holiday?Although the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence has been celebrated since 1777, the 4th of July was not declared a national holiday until 1941. The 4th of July wasn't referred to as Independence Day until 1791.

After 91 years, here’s what I know for sure…
For many years, I resisted moving back up north. The cold
always kept me away. But I rarely saw my great-grandson.
What good was that? Now I see him every week, and
it warms my heart to show him off to my friends at The
Bristal. My life is so much better here than I thought it would
be. Fuller. I use the computer every day, win at canasta,
attend lectures, go shopping, or take in a show or concert.
Everything I enjoy doing. Only now with new friends.
Exceptional lives. Extraordinary living.
Look for the good in everything.
