July 2019 Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers,
The last few weeks of the academic year are always extremely busy. We have had the Summer Fair, the Year 6 Fun Day followed by the Prom, the Year 6 Leavers Assembly, the Year 6 event at Robert Clack, the Summer Concert and the theatre performance of the story of the Lion King. The end of the year is a good opportunity to reflect upon the year that has passed and to celebrate our achievements.
Over the last few weeks Year 6 have done us proud; they demonstrated exceptional behaviour during the Year 6 Prom, the two activity days and the leavers assembly. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who supported these events and especially to Mrs Mehmood who coordinated 2 of the events with the Year 6 Team.
The time has come to say goodbye to our Year 6 pupils. The class of 2019 has worked extremely hard this year both in their learning and in developing the necessary social etiquette ready for secondary school. I know they are ready for the start of their next chapter and I wish them all the best of luck. Continue to make us proud!!
It is also time to say farewell to staff who depart this week: Mrs Peters, Miss Bowes and Mrs Pearson. The Chadwell community would like to thank you all for your contribution and dedication to the pupils of our school. We wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavours.
So another academic year draws to a close and the 6 weeks of Summer holidays are just around the corner. I would like to thank all parents and carers for their continued support this year and wish you a restful Summer holiday. See you all in September!
Mr Walker
Headteacher
Summer Break
We wish you a wonderful
Summer break!
Please note, the school
re-opens to pupils on
Wednesday
4th September 2019 at
09.10am
Mrs Peters, Teacher in Dyson Class
I would like to say a huge thank you to all the
parents, governors and staff of Chadwell Primary School.
You’ve all helped me to grow one way or another. I’ve
served the school in various
capacities and have gained invaluable experience. I’ve
been at the school for almost 10 years and would continue another 10
years if my journey to work was
easier.
I will join a school closer to home and will serve in the capacity of class
teacher and phase leader. I’m actually looking forward to my next
challenge. Thanks again for all your love and
support.
Mrs Pearson, Office Admin
I joined Chadwell Primary School 10 years ago as a Learning Support
Advisor and later joined the office team in 2017. Both my children
attended the school so I knew the school well
before I joined. I have enjoyed my time here at Chadwell and it has been
a difficult decision to depart but new beginnings and exciting times await
me! I would like to say a big thank you to all parents and staff for
making my time here at Chadwell an enjoyable one and I wish you all the
best of luck for the
future.
Miss Bowes, Teacher in Jackson Class
This is my fourth year at Chadwell Primary and I have really
enjoyed my time at the school. I was lucky enough to secure a job here back
in 2015 when I was a student teacher and since being at Chadwell I always
felt a sense of community. Everybody was
always very caring and supportive and that’s what drew me to want to work
here. I have had the privilege of meeting and
working with fantastic children and parents and this school will
always have a big place in my heart.
As some of you may know I live just outside of Southend.
Everybody always says – How have you managed the journey for this long?
It was very difficult to make the decision to change schools but I have se-
cured a teaching post about 10 minutes from home. I will miss everybody
very much but I
definitely won’t miss the rush hour traffic!
I wish everybody at Chadwell all the luck in the world and all the best for the
future. I hope to see you all very soon.
Miss Bowes x
Staff would like to say a big
thank you to parents and
children for all the lovely
gifts they have
received, they are
greatly appreciated.
Thank You!
Holidays During Term Time
Taking holidays during term time will affect your child’s
schooling as much as any other absence and we expect
parents to help us by not taking children away during term
time. Remember that savings you think you may make by
taking a holiday in school time are offset by the cost of
your child’s education. There is no automatic entitlement
in law for time off in school time to go on holiday. Pupils
will not be permitted leave of absence in term time for
holidays or any other activities.
In the event of you requiring leave for your child during
term time, it will be necessary to request this in writing to
the school’s leaverequest@chadwellprimaryschool.co.uk
email. This will then be recorded as an unauthorised
absence and will result in a penalty fine.
At present, the penalty fine is £60 per child per parent
which rises to £120 if the fine is not paid within 21 days.
School Start Times School starts at 9.10am each day.
The gates open at 9am and will close at 9.10am.
In order for our children to gain the greatest benefit from their
education, it is vital that they attend school regularly and should also
be at school on time every day unless the reason for the absence is
unavoidable.
Children arriving late for school will be
recorded in the late book. Consistent
lateness will be followed up and may result in the
Education Welfare Officer being informed.
Late Arrivals
For those children who arrive late to school due to an
unavoidable appointment, they must arrive by
11am at the latest.
Children arriving later than 11am will be refused entry and will be
asked to return at the start of afternoon
registration (1pm).
92 children spent the last Tuesday of term, 16th July, practising for our final
music concert of the year. The morning was spent setting up the hall and
the choir, drumming club, orchestra, recorder clubs and soloists rehearsed
their pieces.
In the afternoon, we performed two short concerts as a practice to years
1-2 and then 3-5. In the evening, it was extremely hot but the children
waited their turn to play and sing with patience and enthusiasm. Thank you
to parents who persevered with that airless hall!
We heard songs from the musicals, exciting drummers (led by Ashton),
recorders en masse, beautiful flute solos, solo singers, jolly violins and
more!
Thank you so much to all the children who worked so hard to learn their
parts. You make me very proud! It isn’t possible without children who are
willing to learn their part and attend. Thank you to Obijulu who spent his
birthday being our stage manager and playing percussion for the orchestra.
Also thank you to Mr Nordon, Miss Khan, Mr Halilaj, Mrs Bhogan-Rai,
Mr Wolfers, Mrs Ozdemir, Ms James and Mrs Smith who all stayed to help
with the concert in some way.
Finally, thank you to Mrs Pearson who has helped to administrate the music
lessons this year.
I do hope your children would like to continue with the clubs next year and
we look forward to seeing you at next year’s concert!
With best wishes,
Mrs Peugniez
Parent Survey
Dear Parents and Carers,
This year, you will be aware that we moved to our first online format for the
parent survey, which produced a low response. 474 surveys were issued but only
116 surveys were completed, representing 24% of the parent/carer school
community. We hope it will be higher next year. The response rate was too low
to draw any firm conclusions from the results but nonetheless I met with two of
our governors to look carefully at the responses we did receive and we
identified a number of themes which we thought would be best addressed
through the school newsletters over the next few editions. In this edition, I will
focus on Questions 2 and 3:
Question 2: I find it easy to contact the school whenever I have a question
89.5% of parents agreed with this statement.
There are a number of ways in which you can make contact with the school:
1. Many parents/carers will know that their child’s class teacher is the initial
point of contact. If you are wanting to have a quick chat with the class teacher
at the end of the school day, you must be prepared to wait until after they have
dismissed the whole class. This might mean you hanging around for longer than
you might want to. The best way to communicate with the class teacher,
especially if you are wanting to have an in depth conversation about your child,
is to arrange an appointment either via the school office or directly by speaking
with the teacher at the end of the school day. For those parents/carers who are
working, please make use of the email system and contact the school via the
contact@chadwellprimaryschool.co.uk email address. In the subject box, please
make sure that it is clear who the email is intended for so that it is forwarded to
the correct member of staff. Teachers are always happy to meet to discuss any
concerns or answer questions that parents may have about their child or the
curriculum.
2. On the school website, https://www.chadwellprimaryschool.co.uk, the
contact page also has details of a range of email addresses for different
purposes: https://www.chadwellprimaryschool.co.uk/contact-us.
Question 3: The school encourages me to play an active part in my child’s
learning. 79% of parents agreed with this statement.
How can parents/carers support learning at home?
To support parents/carers who want to help at home, the school has worked
hard to include lots of extra tools on the new school website to give parents/
carers a clearer picture of what their child is studying at school and when. This
will help parents/carers to start a conversation with their child about what they
are learning at school but also enable parents/carers the chance to look ahead
at future learning if they wanted to plan day trips during the school holidays.
At any point, if you need further information about your child’s learning,
please remember that you can always make an appointment with the class
teacher to discuss this further.
1. On the school website, https://www.chadwellprimaryschool.co.uk under
the ‘Our School’ tab there is a wealth of information that parents to access to
support learning at home. The Curriculum link has details of the curriculum
coverage for each year group for the whole year. It also has a summary of our
Curriculum Intent https://www.chadwellprimaryschool.co.uk/curriculum-
overviews
2. Under the same ‘Our School’ tab there are details about Learning Links,
Reading and the End of Year Expectations for each year group.
3. The monthly newsletter showcases details of events that pupils have
experienced at school, which parents can discuss with their child and might
decide to visit a place of interest that is linked to the work they are doing at
school. https://www.chadwellprimaryschool.co.uk/newsletters
4. Each September there is a parent meeting for each year group. The
purpose of the meeting is for parents/carers to meet the new team who will be
working with their child and discuss the year ahead. Parents/Carers are also
formally invited into school twice a year to attend a Consultation Meeting with
the class teacher.
Parent/Carer support at home, in both academic and social development,
ensures that children thrive as learners. Thank you to those parents/carers who
left their contact details, requesting someone make contact with them. We are
in the process of working through this list so you will hear from us in due
course. Mr Walker

Perfect School Uniform
Our school uniform is very important to us. We feel it helps us to
develop our community identity and adds to the sense of pride
belonging to Chadwell Primary School.
Below we have explained what our “Perfect School Uniform” consists of and have
provided some visual examples.
Our uniform is made up of:
Plain white or light blue blouse, shirt, or polo shirt
Plain navy or grey school skirt or trousers
(No jeans, jogging bottoms or ankle length skirts)
Navy sweatshirt with the school logo
Blue/White gingham dress
Any religious head coverings should conform to uniform colours (ie: blue, grey and
black). Items of clothing worn in school should be clearly marked with your child’s
name. Any hair grips or hair accessories should be plain, simple and in the school
colours.
Footwear
For safety reasons children should wear sensible footwear; Ankle boots, black trainers
and black shoes are acceptable. Knee length boots and UGG boots are not suitable for
school.
Jewellery
Jewellery that has a religious symbol is allowed to be worn; however it must be tucked
away at all times. Children with ear piercings are only allowed to wear small earring
studs but they must be removed or taped over for PE.
As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the school is
enrolled with the National Online Safety scheme. Parents
are invited to sign up for the scheme and use the resources
included. You may work through the modules, particularly
the ones aimed at parents and help the school to achieve
full certification with the organisation.
Please visit https://lms.nationalonlinesafety.com/school/
ChadwellPrimary to create your account. Please select your
account type as “Parent” as this will help you to visit the
most useful sections of the website for you.
Your child will be bringing home a printed version of this
invitation at the end of term.
We trust that the guides on this site will be helpful in
keeping your children safe over the summer break and
beyond.
Thank you.
Year 1 Topic - Australia
To mark the end of their topic ‘Australia’, the children in
year 1 came together for a picnic. Making the most of
the weather, they danced, played games and enjoyed the
food they had prepared for the picnic. We’d like to thank
all the parents for the generous
contribution of fruits! The children have worked really
hard this year and we wish them all the best in year 2.

Chadwell Primary School’s Production of
The Lion King
At the end of the last academic year I approached Mr Walker with a unique
idea of putting together a school production featuring children from Key
Stage 2. After many months of behind the scenes work we were able to
begin rehearsals in the Summer term. Despite having a background in
Drama and Performing Arts, a production being put together within this
school was uncharted territory, and produced a number of challenges
along the way.
Fortunately, these were challenges that were overcome thanks in no small
part to a team of dedicated staff members, unwavering support of
Mr Walker and the senior leadership team and most importantly the
incredibly hard work put in by a group of immensely creative, thoughtful
and talented students from within our school. A unique idea turned into
an unforgettable and awe-inspiring set of performances, enjoyed by many
within the school community. The importance of this event was
highlighted to me by a child handing me a note at the end of the final
performance that read: 'Thank you for helping me to face my fears.'
Following on from the success of our adaptation of 'The Lion King' we will
be looking to make this an annual tradition and will be holding auditions
for our next KS2 production in the Autumn term. More information will
follow in the coming months.
Thank you to all staff, students and parents who dedicated their time and
efforts into making Lion King the success that it was.
Mr Nordon
Governing Body Feedback on
The Lion King Production
The entire Governing Body would like to congratulate the
school and, most of all, the children who put such an
extraordinary effort into their performances of
'The Lion King'.
The children worked extremely hard to learn the dialogue,
songs and music and to keep the show flowing with all the
costume changes, entrances and exits of the large cast.
We are so proud of them and would like to collectively say
a big thank you to all the pupils, staff and parents who
helped to make the show a success. We really hope this
end of term performance might become a new fixture on
the school
calendar for us to look forward to in the future!
Well done to the following winners of the scooters who achieved
100% attendance either in the Autumn, Spring or Summer term.
There were some children who haven’t missed a day of school for
the whole of the academic year. One of our winners, Valerie in
Caruso class, requested that the scooter she won be donated to
charity, which was a lovely gesture.
