Please note: This document was created by myself, Leanne Wagner, based on my own experience using devices in the classroom, as well as the experience kindly shared by other
teachers within my professional network, the recommendations of DETWA and the recommendations from device companies shared on their websites. I have included the more
common robots, devices and maker products used in Western Australia and the South West region. I have tried to compare the company recommendations with the experience in
the classroom. This document is a work in progress and any bits missing are because I have not used the device/product and/or have not yet located or spoken to teachers with
classroom experience using them. If you have further experience you would like to share and contribute to the document please contact me by email. I would be happy to extend
the document further should anyone like to share their knowledge and experience about other devices and products.
*Please remember that this is based on personal experience and just a suggestion, your own experience and the experiences of others may be completely different due to many
factors.
**Note:
• Coloured bar is age group suggested by the companies (with adult supervision).
• White arrows are the DETWA recommended age groups (according to kit information). *Kit was designed for Primary Schools only with regard to the Western Australian Curriculum, age groups reflect this.
• Black arrows are age groups suggested for independent use (after explicit teaching/learning and play) recommended by myself and other education professionals (ICT specialists and classroom teachers) who have used the devices in the class
room. *Regarding designing/creating/coding.
• Where two black arrows appear, there is some debate about suitability due to the complexity of the coding/software choice available for the device. Further teacher judgement is needed, what do you think?
• Osmo, recommended age group will vary depending on which kit is being used.
