Student Life - Where You Belong

We provide learning experiences which help studentsbecome well-rounded learners in life.  Learning instructionincludes a full-time music teacher, a physicaleducation teacher and a librarian.  In partnership with ourlocal high school a number of their students provide supportto teachers and students while working in the classroom. Our extra-curricular activities are many and varied so as tooffer additional opportunities that meet the many interests ofour students. As we understand the value a healthy dietplays in learning, we offer both a daily milk program and athree-day a week snack program.  Supervision is availablefor children who stay for lunch.  In addition, we value theimportance of daily physical activity and encourage ourstudents to utilize the many aspects of our playgrounds (i.e.,soccer field, baseball diamond, basketball court & playstructures).  The students enjoy organizing and playinggames during their free time outside.

What Sets Us Apart

Kimberley Junior P.S. is a unique learning environment as itshares a building as well as a single administrator withBeaches Alternative School.  Our teachers are dedicated tocollaborating with colleagues in both schools on manylevels.  The two schools come together on several occasions(i.e., sport teams, clubs, visiting artists etc.) thus creating afeeling of community, which fosters an understanding andrespect for diversity.  As a small school we are able to knoweach and every family.  Our facilities include a full sized gym,a well designed multi-purpose library with a story tellingarea, computer lab and student research area.  We alsohave a well-resourced music classroom thus allowing us  tooffer Orff, recorder and vocal instruction during music class.

Parent and Community Engagement

Our school strives to create positive partnerships with our parents. To that end, parents are welcome to volunteer in the school for theirchild's learning. For example, parents assist with Scientist in theSchool program, read with children, go on field trips and provideinput and expertise for our greening plan.  Our active parent councilassists our school with many learning initiatives (i.e. variousfundraising events, organizing the snack program and specialtylunch days, literacy night and facilitating school/communityevents).   Through our silent auction and family movie night, andbook fairs we support local businesses. Our surrounding community offers multiple experiences andactivities to foster learning.  We can walk to Main Street Libraryand Ted Reeve arena/park.  Our natural environment providesopportunities to explore the ravine and beach ecosystems.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice, access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
