KOALA’S SCIENTIFIC NAME

Koala’s scientific name is Phascolarctos which means “pouch” & “bear” in Greek.

THEIR RANGE

They mainly live in Eastern Australia.

THEIR DIET

The diet of a Koala consists of mostly eucalpytus leaves but in some cases they also eat non-eucalyptus trees.

AVERAGE SIZE, WEIGHT, LENGTH ETC. The average koala weighs: 9-20 lbs. They are about 27-36 in big Male koalas are naturally bigger than females.

BREEDING Female koalas’ pregnancy lasts for about 35 days. After the “Joey” is born they stay in the mother’s

pouch for about 5 months.

UNIQUE BEHAVIORS

They sleep a lot so they’re able to save their energy for finding food, climbing trees, grooming themselves, or caring for their Joey’s.

In order to move from one tree to the next they jump.

They’re also good at swimming.

WEIRD INFORMATION ABOUT KOALAS

The nickname for the koala is Native Bear. The baby koalas breath oxygen like humans. They have very thick fur. Joey’s are born without any eyesight at first

until they completely develop.
