Korean IGRINS community:Where do we want to go from here?

Jae-Joon Lee (KASI)

IGRINS Summary❖ Simultaneous H & K w/ R ~ 45,000.❖ Two detector: H & K❖ ~25 orders per each detector❖ Slit characteristics w/ 2.7m telescope

➢ Slit length = 15”➢ Slit width = 1”

❖ Optimized for stellar sources. Works reasonably well for compact extended sources.

● A revolutionary increase in spectral grasp (instantaneous spectral coverage) at high resolution (R=45000) in NIR

● Best for Cool stars (e.g, M dwarfs, YSOs), and etc.

Extended source

❖ Jets/Outflows from YSO➢ Heeyoung and Tae-Soo

❖ Supernova Remnants➢ Jae-Joon, Bon-Chul and his team

❖ While extended source may not be very relevant for our Gemini opportunity, it may be worthwhile to focus on these given there is good Korean community behind it.

IGRINS Pipeline

❖ Most of the IGRINS publications use the output of the pipeline we developed.➢ Primarily due to the simple instrument design.

❖ There are things missing➢ Telluric modelling

➢ OH emission modelling

➢ better support for extended source

Make your code Publicly Available!❖ Kyle’s extended emission analysis code

➢ Can Korean community pick-up and continue the development of his code?

❖ TelFit by Kevin

Modeling Telluric features

❖ Especially with Gemini, we need to think about how we can make observations more efficient and how to optimize A0V observations

❖ There already exist telluric modelling tools.➢ TelFit by Kevin Gullikson (former UT grad.)➢ Molecfit by Alain Smette (ESO)➢ Both are based on LBLRTM code.

Modeling of OH line

❖ On-going project by Chan to analyze OH sky lines

❖ It would be good if we can contribute in modelling of OH sky lines➢ Better understanding of earth's atmosphere➢ Better sky subtraction

❖ There are lots of things you can contribute!➢ Some of the topics could be done by

undergrads.

❖ Even though you have not observed with IGRINS yet, maybe we already observed your targets!

❖ With DCT, we will run mini-Queue programs!➢ No need to write a full proposal.

Thank You!
