Design Features
InsertsNew cutting materials and geometriesguarantee maximum tool life andreliable machining. The internal and external insertsare identical. This preventsconfusion.
Central drill bitThe central drill bit guides the solid drill preciselyin the bore axis. This meansdimensional stability even at bore depths ofup to 9 × D.Optimised concentricity properties for the wholesystem mean the central drill bit and for theinserts have a noticeably longer life.
Basic elementThe newly designed chip channels improve chipremoval and at the same time increase the rigidityof the tool body. The modular designis service-friendly and increases flexibility becauseof the bore diameters which are available. With the tried and tested ABS connection, the KUB Centron® has no connection problems.
Guide padsThe carbide guide pads prevent thedrill from deflecting at the bore exitand reduce narrowing to a minimum(see "Setting the guide pads...").The screw connection allows easy changing andsetting on site by the user over the wholediameter range. Optimal guide control and highwear resistance through top quality coatings.
Connection pointThe new-style connection pointallows high torques to be transferred.Central positioning is produced bymeans of an accurately fitting centering spigot. Two tapered screws which act in the direction ofthe torque pull the drill head onto large drivepins, producing a precise and stable connectionbetween the drill head and the basic element.

Assembly instructions
The new KUB Centron®
Insert the drill head with thespigot into the location hole.Ensure the head is rotatedagainst the drive flaps. Then apply the two clampingscrews lightly and tighten asrequired.
Assembling thedrill head
When assembling, check theclamping surface is correctlyaligned.Insert the central drill bit intothe location hole until there iscontact with the length settingscrew. This is adjusted at theworks. Apply the locking screw, using the specified torque.
Fitting thecentral drill bit
Fitting the insert Lengthadjustment
Check the insert seating isclean.Insert the insert into theseating and secure withlocking screw.Use TORX Plus® screwdriver.
In principle there is no need toadjust the length of the centraldrill bit. However,if an alternative length settingis required, this can beachieved by applying theadjusting screw.
Changing theguide pads
The guide pads can be changedif worn or damaged. When using new guide padscheck these are correctlyaligned.See Setting Guide Pads below.
Safety notes
• Important note: On exit of the drill a disc as shown isejected . With rotating components this can causeaccidents. Please arrange suitable guarding.
• The technical notes provided in the application detailsdepend on the environmental and application conditions(such as machine, environmental temperature, lubrication/coolant used and desired machining results): these arebased on proper application conditions, use andcompliance with the spindle speed limits given for thetools.
• To prevent damage to machine and tool, we recommendthat the drive power be calculated in advance (seeperformance calculation on page 11). The drive powerwhich is actually available will be found in the machinemanufacturer's spindle speed/performance diagram.
• Safety equipment should be provided to protect personnelfrom flying chips.
• To ensure the best possible tool life, the insert should bechanged promptly.

The bore diameters for the drill heads are produced for an insert corner radius of R = 0.4 mm.The guide pads are not set when delivered and are a minimum of 0.25 mm below the borediameter. For through holes 8×D KOMET recommends the use of our shim sets to adjust the guide pads.
Procedure:• Loosen locking screw• Remove guide pad and reset with shims• Guide pad setting dimension (D1) is 0.15-0.20 mm below the bore diameter (see Bild 1).• Secure guide pads with locking screw
