II.Abstract
Kuwait is well known for its oil reserves “about 104 billion barrels, which is
approximately 10% of world reserves. Petroleum accounts for nearly half of GDP, 95%
of export revenues, and 80% of government income” (ProQuest 2009).
As per EIU ViewsWire analysis Kuwait is enjoying Excellent GDP per capita in
comparison with other GCC neighbours. Add to that, the level of inflation and
unemployment rate is under control which result in high degree of disposable income
“At an estimated US$40,900 in 2009, GDP per head in Kuwait (at purchasing power
parity rates) is high, even when compared with its rich Gulf Arab neighbours. Moreover,
it is expected to rise steadily over the next five years, on the back of high oil revenue, to
more than US$45,000 in 2014. Kuwaitis will thus continue to benefit from high levels of
disposable income during the forecast period. With inflation expected to average just
3%” (EIU ViewsWire 2010).
Based on CBK economic reports, Kuwait GDP for the Past 5 years could be summarized
as below:
Year GDP Growth Rate
2005 24477.8 39.70%
2006 29494.5 25%
2007 32586.3 10.6%
2008 39787.4 22.1%
