“Adam Hervey, 36, suffered a stroke on January 16, 2013, that left him effectively paralyzed on the left side of his
body and unable to speak or swallow. After enduring a risky emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from one of the main arteries at the base of his brain, he is currently in an acute rehabilitation facility undergoing physical, speech, and occupational therapy to regain his basic functioning...and occupational therapy to regain his basic functioning...
As founder of the not-for-profit, all-ages music and art venue Pehrspace, Adam has been championing the independent creative communities of Los Angeles and beyond since early 2006. In addition, his passion for music extends from having
played in bands himself since he was a teenager (Timonium, Eucalyptus, Miata, Junghaus) to launching his own record label in 1997, Pehr, which has released
recordings by Empress, Swirlies, Grimble Grumble, and Languis, to name just a few. And all of these labors of love have been undertaken on top of his day jobs. And all of these labors of love have been undertaken on top of his day jobs.
Costs associated with strokes are among the highest out-of-pocket medical expenses in the nation. Rehabilitation following a brain stem stroke can take months, even years.
Although Adam has some insurance, it's unclear how long he will require medical treatment and physical therapy beyond what is covered, or how long he will be unable to work. We would love forwould love for Adam to not have to worry about the financial cost associated with his stroke and recovery so that he can
focus all of his energy on just getting better.”
