Provider Survey Purpose: To seek input and opinions from surgical and

anesthesia providers in low- and middle-income countries regarding how to improve delivery of surgical care

Over 500 surveys from 59 countries, South Africa and Nigeria

Survey is available in 6 languages: French, Spanish, English, Arabic, Russian, Chinese

Need assistance is survey distribution – we would like to reach as many people in as many different countries as possible

use pertaining to surgery and anesthesia, research agendas and metrics feasibility

Background InformationSurgeon Mapping

We are trying to answer the question: What percentage of the population has access to safe surgery and anesthesia, when

needed?● There are multiple assumptions that are being used in order to answer this question in a

meaningful way● Given realities of data availability, the plan is to initially focus on surgeon-provider locations

and count populations that live within two-hours of road access● We are using the NASA/Columbia University SEDAC Population Estimation Tool to calculate

populations and Google Maps to identify 2-hour driving ranges
