A. Lange & Söhne Observer’s Watch, WWII Luftwaffe

Selling a circa 1944 vintage Lange & Söhne Beobachtungsuhr (B-uhr) or observer's watch from WWII. These watches were made in limited quantities for the German Luftwaffe and were timed to chronometer specifications my the manufacturer. This is usually the 2d most desirable

model of the five types made for the Luftwaffe (IWC being the 1st and rarest, then Lange & Söhne, followed by the LACO, STOWA, and Wempe models in value and rarity - but all superlative timepieces). Reference number FL23883. The watch has the beautiful 18 jewel gilt L&S Caliber 48/1 hacking movement with large center seconds gear. The watch case is made

of a steel alloy and it's snap-on case back fits snuggly. The winding crown does not appear to be original, though I've seen variations on these so am not sure. The dial, hands and plexiglass crystal are original and in very good condition. The dial's radium indices and markers have

faded in color, though still glow in the dark. This watch was likely made later during the war as evidenced by its lack of assembly location and city (earlier models had this information on the inner case back). Movement number and caseback number match. The watch runs accurately and strong with has no problems or looseness with the balance staff jewels. Hacking device

works properly. Watch comes with a newer wrist sized band, made in the style of the larger original straps. Also comes in an approximate period watch mailing box with postmark from Oct 1936. Overall I’d rate it overall a solid 90% - great for a 64 year old watch. Price is $7500

shipped in CONUS or you pay postage for outside of continental US.
