AMSTERDAM - Discriminatie is de verklaring voor hoge werkloosheid onder allochtonen. Dit geldt zowel nieuwkomers als tweede-generatie-allochtonen. Door discriminatie hebben ze ook vaker een tijdelijke baan dan een vast contract. Maar zijn ze eenmaal aangenomen, dan doen ze het soms beter dan autochtonen.

DEN HAAG - Veel allochtonen zijn te dik. Meer dan de helft van de Turken (55 procent), Marokkanen (51 procent) en Antillianen (50 procent) zijn te zwaar. Bij Surinamers en autochtonen liggen deze percentages rond de 45 procent.

DEN HAAG (ANP) - Niet-westerse allochtonen lopen hun achterstand op de arbeidsmarkt iets in. In het derde kwartaal vorig jaar zaten bijvoorbeeld Marokkanen en Turken gemiddeld ruim twee keer zo vaak zonder werk als autochtonen. Een jaar eerder was de werkloosheid onder niet-westerse allochtonen in de maanden juli, augustus en september nog meer dan drie keer zo hoog.
