Dear Parent(s)/Caregiver(s)

It has been a while since I have written an item for the newsletter as I have been

recovering from having my old knee replaced with a brand new titanium one. The

recover process has taken longer than expected however, I am now back on deck.

This week we have witnessed the wonderful talent of the Bay & Basin schools with

our extravaganza of music, and displays from our school and all our partner

primary schools. This was a wonderful day coordinated by Sanctuary Point Public

School and Helen Rhodes. Congratulations to all involved!

We have elected our new School Captains and they are Holly Brown & Corey

Stynes. Our Vice Captains are June Norton & Shannon O’Beirne.

Congratulations to these students on their election.

Our Head Teacher, Mathematics Mr Smith is recovering from a major operation and

we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

Scripture Seminars: Vincentia High School will be hosting several Scripture seminars this term.

On Monday, 2nd September we will have Simon Clegg who speaks on the topics of self-worth and self-esteem. In a

world full of so many choices young people can find it hard to make the right ones. In this seminar Simon takes

students on a journey through real life stories of how choices have consequences and demonstrates the lasting power

that bad choices can have. Simon shares his story of drug and alcohol abuse and how this had a major effect on his

future and dreams.

The number 1 issue that the youth of today are facing is the area of self-worth and self-esteem. Simply put, the next

generation are being told who they are through branding, media and other sources and when they feel that they don’t

fit the norm it can become severely detrimental in regards to making wise choices for the future.

Life is a series of choices and young people sometimes find it hard to see past tomorrow, let alone look ahead to their

future. These seminars are about inspiring students and educating them in how to make the right decisions by being

true to themselves and not following the crowd. Simon also deals head on with the potential complications facing the

modern world regarding social media and the major effects of this on today’s teenagers. Parents: If you do not want your child to attend these seminars you will need to write a note addressed to Deputy Principal,

Reports!!!! Due to a technical glitch the processing and

distribution of school reports has been delayed.

Reports should be available within the next two to three weeks.

Camp Koloona On the 24

th, 25

th & 26

th July, 2013 Indigenous students took part in a ‘Leadership Forum’ at Camp Koloona,

North Nowra. Students learnt how to work as a team and what it takes to be an Indigenous role model and

leader at Vincentia High.

Mr Matt Reid led the students through leadership and

team building exercises and they took part in team

work activities such as abseiling and billy cart

racing.

The camp was designed to establish an Indigenous

Leadership Team at Vincentia High School which will

be run as part of the SRC and will aim to encourage

Indigenous students and their parents to have a

stronger voice in their education and outcomes.

The leadership team will meet once a fortnight and have

already designed the initial projects they will work on

including Dhurga signage around the school and a rewards

excursion to be held at the end of the year.

The students will have the opportunity to

showcase their plans and achievements at a

parent night to be held in the upcoming

months.

Indonesian

Excursion Year 9, 10 & 11 Indonesian classes travelled to Sydney on Thursday 27th June to visit an Indonesian restaurant. ‘Teras Bali’ restaurant is located in Walsh Bay on the Pier, right under the harbour bridge and is a magical place for lunch or dinner at any time. Students were able to order using the Indonesian language, sample authentic Indonesian foods and were even surprised with an Indonesian dessert called ‘Es Cendol’. Student behaviour was exemplary and appreciated by all. Ms Edwards Indonesian Teacher

‘Spring into Sanctuary Point Expo’ Sanctuary Point Community Pride is holding their ‘Spring into Sanctuary Point Expo’ on Saturday 7th September at the Francis Ryan Reserve, Sanctuary Point. Volunteers are needed for a range of activities both before the big day and on the day. Before the day walkers are needed to do a letter box drop and on the day volunteers to oversee the parking of stall holders and to assist with guiding visitors to the various exhibits and stall holders. This is a wonderful day for the village and they are keen to involve as many people as possible to ensure the smooth running of the day and to raise the awareness of residents of what will be an exciting and interesting day.
