It is a It is a fantastically new geological era. Within the past century a new species of material types has fully entered the physical makeup of our landdscapes, waterways, and geographies worldwide. Their presence is unprecedented. Their population is populating. They are human produced synthetics.

Distinguished by quick use and non-lifecycle design, synthetics occupy not just trash cans seen and landdfills ignored but distant sites unknown. Lying outside our routine environments, such uninhabited areas are often extraordinary archaeological destinations where the great quantities of synthetic samples found act as instant artifacts of the society that created and disposed of them, the current society. With them, one is now able to objectively study not what did happen, but what is happening.

As with the realization of any geological phenomenon, many questions are to be answered, and many more questions are to be asked. It is up to today’s curious adventurer to Locate Explore SynSynthetic Sites, and do just that.
