Objectives:

6 questions to help you be a good digital citizen

1) Would I like for someone to share that about me?

2) Do I know this person well enough to know if he or she will mind me sharing this information?

3) Would I do or say this in-person, or if my family were watching?

6 questions to help you be a good digital citizen

4) Am I doing this because of an emotional reaction?

5) Am I breaking the law or violating school policies?

6) Does this behavior really represent who I am?

Here are some examples of situations that arise:

Janae is upset with her parents so she vents on social media. She has connections on the site that will allow other family members to see the ugly things she said about her family.

Rob is going through a nasty break-up with his girlfriend. They have been arguing back and forth on email and he’s tempted to publish it all online.

Lee is jealous that Frank made the football team and he did not. He started a vicious rumor that Frank uses performance-enhancing drugs.

Tara sees the answers to the upcoming test on Mr. Odell’s desk. She took a picture with her phone and emailed it to her classmates.
