Who Did It?Andrew and Lena are outside talking. Act out the parts with a partner. Then switch roles and act them out again.
Andrew: Did you hear the news? Ernie Green was arrested for stealing Farmer Brown’s chicken pot pie!
Lena: How can that be? Ernie is so nice. Was there proof?
Andrew: That’s the thing. Ernie insisted he didn’t do it. But the pie pan was in his yard.
Lena: Was Ernie arrested? Was there a trial?
Andrew: Yes and the jury was convinced he was guilty. But then . . .
Lena: What happened?Andrew: Ernie’s wife, Melinda, was a
witness. She took the stand and told everyone that Ernie is a vegetarian. He doesn’t eat chicken! Melinda thinks her and Ernie’s dog ate it.
Lena: I knew Ernie didn’t do it. He’s so honest. I guess they won’t be putting the dog on trial!
