Let´s share traditional folktales but in images

The legend of the spire of Soleto

In a dark night, in Soleto, there is a strange unrest and turmoil in the air.

Something is happening near the old medieval church.

The legend of the spire of Soleto

Everyone is curious and wants to know what’s happening, but nobody has the courage to leave home. Nobody wants to look outside.

Only a child looks outside. There isn’t the moon in the

dark sky, but the child can see strange figures in the air.

They aren’t people, they aren’t animals.

They look like demons that he can see in the Universal Judgement in the Saint Stephan church.

The child is afraid, but he continues to look outside.

He sees a tower that didn’t exist last evening.

“So, demons are building the tower” he thinks.

Then he sees other strange figures: old women who wear shabby clothes.

They are witches; they are cutting stones to decorate the tower.

The child is afraid, so he runs away and goes under the covers.

He stays awake all night. He thinks “What’s going on out

there?”, “What are the strange creatures doing near my house?”

When the light of morning appears, he gets up and looks outside.

Witches and demons run to get away from the sunrise lights.

All escape, but only four demons are affected of sunlight and petrified on the four corners of the tower.

The child looks carefully and sees that it isn’t a tower, it isn’t a bell tower, but it is a spire because it hasn’t got a bell on the top.

The child says: “The spire is beautiful!”
