The Prospector’s June 2014
Let’s Go Panning
Days a Huge
Success Although I was unfortunate enough
to have to work on Mother’s Day
weekend, upwards of 250 club
members and guests took part in the
first outing of the GPOC season. As
you can see by these pictures, the
weather on Friday and Saturday was
quite pleasant, but on Mother’s Day
a major cold front moved in, with
plunging temperatures and snow
flurries putting a damper on any
intentions to play in the water.
Many new members and guests
benefited from watching and
learning from the “experts”, and
many experienced prospectors
benefited from the energy and
enthusiasm of those new to this
hobby.
And as always, there was food,
fellowship, and fun as members and
guests alike swapped stories and
shared their love of digging for gold.
Smiley tends the dredge while Calvin sucks up the gold.
Club member Calvin Johnson takes advantage of the nice weather to run his monster dredge.
GPOC Buying Gold
Need Placer Gold to “Seed” Troughs
for Panning Demonstrations
At the recent General Membership Meeting, Gary
Beaderstadt spoke with the membership regarding a
new purchase of gold. Club stocks of placer gold have
gotten pretty low, and the Board would like to
purchase now to stockpile for future events before the
price goes any higher. A motion was made, seconded,
and the membership voted unanimously to approve
the following:
The club will purchase up to five ounces of gold.
Anyone interested in selling gold must comply with the
following:
• Gold must be clean with no black sand.
• Must be dry.
• Must be weighed before putting into a
container.
