town in the south-east of Hungary

The Structure of the Education System in Hungary

Education in Hungary is compulsory for all children of 6 – 18 years old.

The current structure consists of five levels included in both public and private schools.

It has changed a lot recently and is still under progress.

The different levels are:

Pre-school education (kindergartens)children from 3 – 6 ( the last year is compulsory for all )

Primary education 6 – 12/14 years Secondary education 12/14 – 18 years

-general secondary / grammar schools (4 or 6 years long)-vocational secondary schools (4 or 6 years long)-vocational training school (4 years long )

Higher education - college and university BA /MA ( 3-6 years long ) Post-graduate education up to PHD

Schools in Szentes

14 kindergartens 7 primary schools (1 Catholic and 1

Protestant) 5 secondary schools

(general secondary/grammar school, vocational secondary schools, vocational training school)

3 music and art schools (1 state 2 private) No colleges or universities

Kiss Bálint Protestant Primary School

The first school was established in 1700-s.

The present institute was built in 1928.

Since 1993 protestant school again.

8 grades, 16 classes, 430 students, 35 teachers ( the average number of students 27/ class )

Special subjects and extra curriculum

Foreign languages:English, German and French

Religious Studies Drama ICT Several spare time

activities and programs ( sport, music, art)

Final exam at grade 8 Some subjects are

taught in small groups

Difficulties

decreasing number of children in the town („fight” for the students )

lots of school subjects (no choice) unreliable financial support increasing number of students with

unstable background

Prospects

well developed reputation in the last few years

young and active staff thanks to our many successful

tenders our equipments are improving

increase in opportunities for further education and trainings of teachers
