Pancake Day - Year 6
A Comenius-Health Activity
In the UK Pancake Day (also known as Shrove Tuesday) is the last day before the period which Christians call Lent. It is traditional on this day to eat pancakes. In Asturias we also eat pancakes in Carnival.
We need some ingredients
•Some flour
•Some milk
•Some eggs
•Some sugar
•Some olive or sunflower oil
•A pinch of salt
We also need these utensils
•A bowl
•A whisk
•A ladle
•A spatula
•A tablespoon
•A knife
•A frying pan
•A serving plate
We must wash our hands
Very important!
Oh, yes
And we have to wear an apron!
Now we are ready to make pancakes...
And after listening to our teachers’ instructions...
add the flouradd the milkadd the eggsadd a pinch of salt
First, make the batter
Whisk until smooth
Second, whisk
Then cook the pancakes: add some oil, a ladle of batter, move mixture around to spread batter evenly
And wait 30 seconds (maybe more) until it gets brown
Fourth, toss the pancakeUse the spatula to flip pancake overCook for a few seconds more
We really enjoyed flipping the pancakes!
Finally, remove and place flat on serving plate
Ummm, we are hungry
and add a tablespoon of sugar.
