What is the MC-SALT project?

The project origins from the results of

LIFE00NAT/IT/7215 in Comacchio

saltwork, Italy, which clustered together

Natura 2000 sites’ managers who are

currently facing similar conservation

issues.

All the sites host saltworks

Besides specific concrete actions in each

site the project will produce two common

results:

1) Management model of saltworks;

2) Guideline for Herring gull (Larus

michahellis) disturbance mitigation.

Is a small, about 1000 hectares, saltwork

with non-industrial salt production.

Is a Natura 2000 site, Ramsar site,

Regional Park, State Forestry reserve.

Environmental problems:

Scarce water circulation (necessary for

habitat, specie and salt production);

Threats for birds due to powerline

(collision), lack of nesting site, disturbance

from Herring gull (Larus michahellis).
