Ulster Rugby has teamed up with two awarding winning local agri-food companies for the 2014/15 season. Linden Foods and White’s Oats part of the Fane Valley Group of Companies will both be ‘Official Suppliers’ to the Ulster Rugby squad.

In the dairy sector a recent study by a veterinary pharmaceutical company alarmingly found that 85% of dairy herds in Northern Ireland had liver fluke infections.

Inthedairycowliverflukeinfectionsreduceproductivityandcanreducemilkyieldsby10to15%.Milkqualityandconceptionratesalsosufferdramaticallyasaresultofinfection.

Allcattlearesusceptibletoinfectionregardlessofageandthereforetreatmentofallbovinesistoberecommended.Itisvitallyimportanttobeawarethatcattle never develop immunity to liver fluke irrespective of age.Therefore,thisnecessitatestimelyongoingtreatmentforthisparasite.

Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster has announced White’s Speedicook Ltd is creating 29 new jobs as part of significant expansion plans.

Thecompany,basedinTandragee,partoftheFaneValleyGroupofArmaghsince1994,isNorthernIreland’sonlyoatmillerandaleadingproducerofporridgeoatsandothersnackandbreakfastproducts.

Speaking during a visit to the company’s oat milling and processing operation Arlene Foster said:“White’sSpeedicookLtdistobecommendedforwhatisamajorinitiativetoincreasethecompetitivenessofitsportfolioofproductsparticularlyinmarketsoutsideNorthernIreland.Theexpansionplansrepresenta£1.5millioncapitalinvestmentinbuildings,plantandmachineryoverthenextthreeyears.IampleasedthatInvestNIaresupportingthisthroughprovidingassistanceof£217,500.Itisimportantthatwecontinuetosupportcompaniesandbusinessthatarelookingtodevelopandexpandespeciallyinruralareas.CompaniessuchasWhite’sSpeedicookLtdareanimportantsourceoflocalemploymentandhelpingtosustainthelocaleconomyandcommunity.

“Toachieveitsobjectiveofdoublingsalesandprofitsoverthenextthreeyears,thecompanyhasdevelopedanewbusinessgrowthstrategy

thatinvolvesprocessimprovements,skillsdevelopmentandnewmarketinginitiativestoraiseitsprofileinitsexistingmarketsaswellastherestofEurope,US,AsiaandtheMiddleEast.

Linden Foods & LINERGY Sign First Ever Prosperity Agreement

Environment Minister Mark H Durkan and Dungannon based agri-food companies, Linden Foods Ltd and Linergy have signed the world’s first Prosperity Agreement.

Theagreementwillturnenvironmentissuesfrombarrierstobusinessintoeconomicgrowthopportunities.

ThedealisthattheNorthernIrelandEnvironmentAgency(NIEA),whilefirmlyregulating,willworktoreduceredtape.Inturnthecompaniesinvestheavilyintheenvironment.LindenFoodsandLinergyarecommittingsignificantinvestmentintheenvironment.Inadditiontomanyenvironmentalbenefitsitwillmeanthemreducingtheircarbonemissionsbyastaggering25%.

The Environment Minister, speaking at Linden Food Headquarters in Dungannon said:“Lastyear,IoutlinedmyvisionfortheenvironmentagendainNorthernIreland:‘ABetterEnvironment–AStrongerEconomy’.Mymessagewasclear,long-termeconomicprosperityandwell-beingisonlypossiblethroughtheresponsiblemanagementoftheenvironment.

“Ibelievethebiggestimpactwillcomefromthemainusersofournaturalresources,

thebusinesscommunity.Weneedtohelpbusinessestoidentifyopportunitiesforgrowththatreducesrelianceonfiniteresources,reuseandreducewasteandtorethinkproducts.

“ItoldmyNorthernIrelandEnvironmentAgency(NIEA)toregulatefirmlybutalsotobemoresupportiveofprogressivebusinesseswhichhaveagoodcompliancerecord.ThisfirstProsperityAgreementisagreatexample,helpingtheseprogressiveandcompliantcompaniesinourcriticalagri-foodsectortoreduceenvironmentalimpactinwaysthatboosttheircompetitivenessintheirmarkets.

“Thereisnoshortageoftalkaboutsustainability.Thereis,however,ashortageofrealaction.ThisProsperityAgreementshowsNorthernIrelandisdifferent.Myenvironmentagencyhassatdownwithtwocompaniesandthepartieshaveagreedrealactionstobringenvironmentandeconomicobjectivestogether.

Fane Valley Raise £10K For Parkinson’s UKFane Valley Feeds entered four relay teams in the Belfast Marathon. Their aim was to raise as much money and awareness about their chosen charity, Parkinson’s UK. A charity, which is extremely close to the hearts of all at Fane Valley Feeds.
