Getting StartedThis guide is for institutions that are part of the Microsoft Live@edu program. Use the step-by-step instructions and screen shots in this guide to configure the co-branding feature for
your organization's Live@edu domains.
SIGN IN
1. To sign in, go to theWindows Live Admin Center(http://domains.live.com) Web site andlog in with your Live@edu admin ID and password. If your organization does not already
have credentials, submit thise-form

be assigned to you.
2. Click on the Sign in command button. This will open the Windows Live ID sign-in page.

3. On the Windows Live ID sign-in page, enter your Live@edu Admin ID and password andsign in by clicking the Sign in command button.
SELECT THE DOMAIN YOU WANT TO MANAGE
4. On the Your Domains page, select the domain you want to manage
SELECT THE SERVICE YOU WANT TO CO-BRAND
5. On the Customize Windows Live services page, click Co-branding from the left navigationpane and then click the service you want to co-brand.
The sample co-branding page below is for an institution on the Hotmail platform. In this
scenario Hotmail, the Sign-in Page, Calendar, and the Header and Footer can be
configured for co-branding.

Note: Co-branding changes only apply to Hotmail, Windows Live and Outlook Live Web
interfaces. Changes do not apply to any desktop client applications.
SELECT A LANGUAGE
6. You can configure co-branding for multiple markets (language + country settings). The firstmarket you configure becomes the default. To change your market, click Change.
Note: You must publish each language/region separately.
7. Choose a language from the drop down menu and click OKto confirm. You can alsochange your default market. Check the box marked Set as default to select a new
language default.

Co-branding Your HotmailSign-in Page
1. To co-brand the sign-in page, select the Sign-in Page service listed on the CustomizeWindows Live services page.

2. Browse to a logo file saved on your computer. Select the file you want to upload andclick Open. It is important to ensure that your logo fits within the parameters of the listed
image properties as seen in the visual below.

5. If your logo was saved successfully, you will be redirected automatically back to theWindows Live Sign-in page. If you receive an error message, check to make sure your logo
fits within the properties provided on the page. Select a logo that fits within theparameters, and save it again.
6. In order for your end users to see the co-branded sign in page they must navigate to theURL specific to the co-brand offer. Copy the URL seen below to a link on your portal.
Note: The site ID (in the URL) seen below is for example only. Yours will be different.
Note: Save your changes before navigating away from this page. Changes are NOT saved
automatically and will not be published to the Web until you click the Publish button on
the Customize Windows Live Services page.

Co-branding Your WindowsLive ServicesHEADER AND FOOTER
You can co-brand the header and footer of your Windows Live services with your organizations
logo and configure the header and footer specifically to meet your organizations needs.
Caution:You must upload your organizations logo. If a logo is not uploaded, a red X willappear in the logo position when the co-branding is published.
1. To upload your organizations logo:a. Browse to a logo file saved on your computer. It is important to ensure that your
logo fits within the parameters of the listed image properties seen in the visual below.
b. Select the file you want to upload and click Open.c. After you save, you should see a preview image of your logo displayed next to the
Properties listed on the page.
2. You can also hyperlink your logo to a location of your choosing. Place your link in the boxprovided and select Click here to test to ensure the URL hyperlinks to the Web location
properly. If youve entered your custom URL correctly, selecting Click here to test should
open a new browser window displaying the page that corresponds to that URL. If your URL
was not entered correctly, the browser window will open but the page that corresponds to
your URL will not be displayed.

3. You can configure a variety of menu items for Windows Live. You can choose to hide allmenu items by un-checking the Hide all menu items box or to hide the individual
Photos, More or MSN menu items uncheck the appropriate box. The other menu items (i.e.
Mail and Office) cannot be suppressed. Although the Separator line between the More and
MSN Menu Items appears to be editable, it is not. Unchecking the box next to the
Separator will not suppress it.
4. You can also customize the Custom sub-menu to open in a new browser window. If youwant the Custom sub-menu items to open in a new browser window check the box labeledSub-menu items open in a new browser. Also, you can enter a sub menu name to reflect
your organization.

Once youve named your Custom sub-menu, you can choose up to six links to appear in themenu. Enter the link in the box labeled URL and enter the text that you want your users
to click on in the box labeled Text.

6. You can configure up to nine MSN menu items in the same way that you configured theCustom sub-menu, and rename the MSN menu to fit your organization. Remember, you can
alsoturn off the MSN menu if you dont need it. (See the Top-level menu visual in step 3above).
7. Once youve renamed the MSN menu, chose links to appear in the menu. Enter the linkinthe box labeled URL and enter the text that you want your users to click on in the box
labeled Text. You can test your link by selecting Click here to test. If youve entered your
custom URL correctly, selecting Click here to test should open a new browser window

Contoso University wants
students to have quick, easy
access to Web sites for the
University library, student

8. Custom modules (RSS feeds) are an easy way for students to stay up-to-date on regularchanges made to some Windows Live services. By default, MSN RSS feeds are now disabledfor the Live@edu program.
9. The following Windows Live services have landing pages that are the starting point foreach service: These RSS feeds (Home, SkyDrive, Groups, Photos, Spaces and Office) are not
available at Wave 4 launch. They are planned to be available Aug. 2010.

10.You can integrate your content into these landing pages by configuring RSS feeds. Thesefeeds must be in RSS 2.0 format and in accordance with the Windows Live Service Providers
Program policies for content integration.11.You can override these settings by entering up to three custom RSS feed URLs in the
spaces provided and uncheck the box to enable the feeds.
Note: By default, RSS feeds are disabled for your domain. In order to turn on RSS feeds
across the Windows Live services uncheck the Select to disable boxes for the Home Page,
Spaces, Sky Drive, Groups, Photos and/or Office, and save and publish your co-branding.
Once your co-branding changes are published to the Web the RSS feeds will be enabled for
all users on your domain.
Example
Contoso University uses a
Whats Happeningpage to tell
students about events around
campus. This page changesfrequently as events are updated
and new events are added. An
RSS feedon the universitys
home.live.com page lets
students keep track of these
changes and alerts them to
events they may want to attend.
To enable RSS feeds, Contoso
University would remove the
checkbox for one of the content
modules, enter a URL for their
custom RSS feed, save and
publish their co-branding

12.You can add two custom links to the footer in your Windows Live services. The new footerlinks are completely undefined and links are added in the same way you customized the
header linksby entering the URL and corresponding text. If you choose not to use theselinks they will not appear in the footer.
You can test your link by selecting Click here to test. If youve entered your custom URL
correctly, selecting Click here to test should open a new browser window displaying the
page that corresponds to that URL. If your URL was not entered correctly, the browser

13.Finally, click Save to complete all of your Header and Footer changes. Selecting Cancel willdismiss all Header and Footer changes from this current session.

Co-branding Windows LiveHotmail and CalendarYou can also configure the Windows Live Hotmail and Calendar services to fit the needs of your
users and your organization.
HOTMAIL
1. To co-brand the Hotmail service, select Hotmail listed on the Customize Windows Liveservices page in the left navigation menu.

2. Next, select a name for your organizations mail service. The product name you select willappear on the label in the title bar and on the Internet Explorer tab, and will replace the
word Hotmail throughout the Hotmail user interface. Enter your text, exactly as youwant it to appear, in the box provided. If you choose not to rename the Hotmail service
Windows Live Hotmail will be displayed by default.
3. You can also provide a sign-out redirect link. This link lets you redirect users to a customURL when they sign out of their Windows Live Hotmail service. If you choose to leave this
blank your users will be redirected to the Windows Live Sign-out page.
4. Use can also choose to bypass the Today page so end users go directly to their inbox.Check the box to bypass the Today page.
5. You can choose to allow mail forwarding for end users so they can forward mail to anotheraccount. This option is disabled by default. Uncheck the disable mail forwarding box to
enable mail forwarding for your domain.

6. You can also customize the message displayed to a user when their Hotmail inbox hasbeen disabled by Hotmail.

CALENDAR
The Windows Live Calendar can also be co-branded. You can provide a welcome message for
first time users, rename the service and provide a custom link on the calendar.

1. To co-brand the Windows Live Calendar page, select the Calendar service listed on theCustomize Windows Live services page.
2. Start by entering a message for users to see during their first time experience. Type amessage into the Welcome Message Field.
3. You can rename the Calendar service as well, simply type a name into the New Name field.4. You can provide a custom link from the calendar. Type a link name and URL into the Link
Name and Link URL fields.
5. You can also provide your organizations name that will be referred to throughout yourcalendar.
6. Finally, click Save to complete all of your Calendar changes. Selecting Cancel will dismissall Calendar changes from this current session.

Co-branding Outlook LiveYou can co-brand Outlook Live in much the same way you co-branded Hotmail and the headerand footer of your Windows Live services.
Primary domain co-branding will not apply to accepted domains automatically. Accepted
domains must be co-branded separately; simply set co-branding attributes on the accepted
domain the same as you would for the primary domain.
To change co-branding on your primary or accepted domain, click the domain name in the
Your Domains window and then click the Co-branding link from the left nav.

The following is a sample co-branded Outlook Live UI:

2. You can set Alt text for the blind and low vision user experience (UE). The Alt text appearsin the blind and low vision UE when the user hovers over the logo.
3. You can also add a logoff redirection link. This link lets you redirect users to a custom URLwhen they sign-out of their Outlook Live service. If you choose to leave this blank your
users will be redirected to the Outlook Live sign-in page.
4. Select Enable the custom theme. If you do not check this box, your custom look-and-feel changes will not be applied to your Outlook Live service. If you choose not to customize
any of the following areas, the portions not customized will have the look-and-feel of thedefault theme.

5. The Branding Bar appears on the top portion of the Outlook Live client. The Branding Barbackground image is the primary background image in the header, and the Branding Bar is
tiled horizontally behind it to fill in the gap on either side of the Branding Bar when the
browser window exceeds 2,000 pixels. Next, upload images for your Branding Bar:a. Browse to an image file saved on your computer. It is important to ensure that your
image fits within the parameters of the listed image properties.
b. Select the file you want to upload and click Open.c. You should now see a preview image of your image displayed next to the Properties
listed on the page after you save your changes.
6. Next, enter custom color values for the Outlook Live Web interface application.Remember, all color values must be entered in hexadecimal format without a # sign in front
of the color value. Click the color on the right for a color picker.

Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: How do I preview any changes Ive made to my service?
A: In order to preview your changes, you must click the Preview Changes command button.
Then click the Preview link next to the service you want to preview. Change previews are active
for up to 72 hours after being saved, or until you publish your changes to the Web.
Q: Ive made changes to my co-branding features but my users dont see the changes yet.
Why?
A: After saving your changes, you must click the Publish to the web command button. Allow 24
hours to see your changes.
Q: My organizations logo will not upload. Why do I keep getting an error message?
A: Please verify that the file properties are within acceptable parameters.
Q: My Windows Live menu links appear to be active but the links dont work when I click
on them. Why?
A: Ensure that you entered http:// before the URL and check the URL for accuracy. If youve
done both of these things then test the link using Click to test located near the box where you
entered the URL. If your URL works when you test it, you should be able to publish it to the
Web successfully.
Q: Im seeing RSS feeds in my Windows Live services. How do I turn those off?
A: In the administrator co-branding UI click the Publish to the web command button. Verify
that the Select to disable custom feed checkbox is checked in Windows Live Header Footer co-
branding UI. These changes will take up to 24 hours to propagate.
Q: Im seeing advertisements in my Windows Live services. How do I turn those off?
A: In the administrator co-branding UI click the Publish to the web command button. These
changes will take up to 24 hours to propagate.
Q: I have an Outlook Live domain and the mail menu item reads Hotmail on Windows
Live services pages. How do I fix this?
A: Publish co-branding for your domain.
