settings and writer’s milieu for many of the works we’ll read• Works for Gen Ed Lit for everyone• TWO World Lit courses required for Writing,

Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Lit majors

3. LIT 490 – Irish and Scots Lit: See the homelands of the writers and the settings for the works– Upper division Lit requirement for Writing,

Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Lit majors– Works as an elective for all majors

WRITING• 4. WRI323: Creative Nonfiction

(required/option for several majors)

The Academic Element: How the class works NO REGULAR CLASS MEETINGS ON THE TOUR---

INSTEAD:

• Christmas Break / Spring reading list

• Three or four meetings during Spring semester. Reading response sheets and/or quizzes due during these meetings.

• Informal, individual class meetings on the tour, on the coach, in restaurants etc. to discuss and prepare for the final project.

• Final exam, paper, or portfolio due end of Summer 1 term

How much does it cost?

• Inclusive trip fee for air, ground, lodging and attractions.

~$3150 if we have ~20 students. Final price will depend on how many students and cost of airfare at time of ticketing.

How Much Does It Cost

• A Non-Profit Venture: THE MORE STUDENTS ON THE TOUR, THE LESS IT COSTS PER STUDENT

• Price last year was $600 less than 2008 AND

• ~$550 additional refunded last year when we had 25 students + good exchange rates + no emergencies + additional discounts.

• Students used the windfall for Paris or England Free day.

How Much Does it Cost?

– Yes, the tour fee covers all air, coaches, tube, tours, all group attractions (1-4 per day), theatre tickets, most breakfasts + 4 dinners

Your Expenses• Some breakfasts + lunches, snacks,

dinners, souvenirs, extra attractions– Exchange rates: Good news this year– Euros and Pounds

How Much Does It Cost?

• Tuition– $850 per unit– You pay this amount, then PLNU puts

85% of tuition back into our trip fund. This subsidy lowers the tour fee; otherwise the tour would cost (and is worth) closer to $5500

– Another way of looking at it: If you’re ever going to take a summer class, this class will be almost free (85% discount) with the tour.

How to Assure a place

(Maximum 22 Students)

• ASAP, or by Nov 8, bring your $300 Deposit to Student Financial Services. They will work with you on financing and billing

• $300 2nd Deposit due January 15• Last day to drop out without owing what

we’ve committed or getting a substitute: ~December 15 (subject to change)
