ATLS CREDIT

The American College of Surgeons is accredited bythe ACCME to sponsor education for physicians. TheAmerican College of Surgeons designates this activity fora maximum of 17 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.Physicians should claim credit commensurate with theextent of their participation in the activity. The 17 hoursof CME credit are awarded for the full student course. Ifyou just participate in the refresher portion, the CME granted is 5 hours.

NINTH EDITION ATLS® COURSES

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Advanced Trauma Life Support®(ATLS®) courses are designed to assist physicians in providing the first hour ofemergency care to trauma patients. Training combines didactic lectures andpractical skills stations, allowing time to perfect skills in the initial assessment,management and stabilization phases of trauma patients.

ATLS® Objectives • Demonstrate concepts and principals of patient assessment.

• Establish and manage priorities in a trauma situation.

• Initiate primary and secondary management necessary within the first hourof emergency care for acute life-threatening emergencies.

• Demonstrate the skills necessary in initial management of trauma victims:

• Initial assessment of moulage victim(s) with multiple injuries• Radiographic identification of thoracic injuries• Initiation of intravenous therapy• Subclavian CVP and internal jugular, adult/infant endotracheal intubation and nasotracheal intubation • Cricothyrotomy• Pleural decompression and chest tube insertion• Pericardiocentesis• Perioneal lavage • Application of splint/traction devices• Head and spinal trauma immobilization• Radiographic identification of C-spine injuries
