Suitability NoteSome of the gravel and shingles supplied mayoccasionally contain very minor concentrations of ironminerals, which upon weathering may result in areas ofrust staining. These iron minerals occur naturally withinthe gravel deposits, and Long Rake Spar cannot be heldresponsible for any loss or damage suffered as a result of rust staining. By way of guidance to users of ourproducts we have included the risk of iron staining (RIS)assessment on our range of gravels and shingles. This guide is purely a subjective assessment, based onour own experience with these products and may besubject to change as our database expands. The scale is defined as follows:* No likelihood of any rust staining** No previous recorded instances of rust staining
within this product*** Potential for rust staining within this rock type
with recorded instances.
PSV = Polished Stone ValueThe resistance of an aggregate to polishing and therefore a measure of skid resistance. PSV should not be viewed inisolation as aggregates with a high PSV may be likely to abradeeasily (high AAV). PSV values in excess of 58 are generallyacceptable for highway wearing courses.
SRV = Skid Resistance ValueA measure of the skid resistance of aggregate within the texture of a system. The greater the value the higher the skid resistance.
AAV = Aggregate Abrasion ValueThe resistance of an aggregate to abrasion. The lower the AAV, themore resistant the aggregate is to wearing. Values of less than 16are acceptable for highway wearing courses.
AIV = Aggregate Impact ValueThe resistance of an aggregate to impact stress produced from amoving vehicle. Values of less than 20 are acceptable for highwaywearing courses.
ACV = Aggregate Crushing ValueThe resistance of an aggregate to crushing. The lower the ACV, the more resistant the aggregate is to crushing.
LA = Los Angeles CoefficientThe resistance to fragmentation is a measure of the toughness of an aggregate and is viewed as a representative measure of both degradation and crushing stress values. Values of less than 30 are acceptable for highway wearing courses.
Product ConformityAll images displayed in this product brochure are displayed wet, to simulate theirappearance when used in resin. Please note that whilst every care is taken toprovide an exact indication of the colours of our products, these aggregates are naturally found products which may be subject to changes in appearance, colour and size between process batches. It is therefore strongly recommended to request a product sample prior to any work being undertaken.
Striking packagingThe majority of our products are produced in bright informative packaging, whichclearly identifies each product by name, size and production batch date. Our productsin the main are vacuum packed in fully waterproof packaging to assist with productlifespan and to minimise dust content. We also supply an extensive range of ourproducts in various bag weights to assist with the formulation of composite batches,to meet the demands of the varying resin systems. Our products are also available in bulk bags or tanker loads, subject to prior arrangement.

Bound Resin SystemsThe main characteristic of a resin bound system is theuniform, smoothed flat appearance of the finished surface. It provides a low maintenance surface that is porous/semiporous and hard wearing yet flexible and resistant tocracking. The system is applied by mixing the resin and aggregate together to form one combined blend whichis then applied directly onto a hard wearing surface where it is trowelled flat to provide a smooth and uniform finishedsurface. Any of our products can be incorporated into thistype of system, with most forming part of a more intricateblend, designed by customers wishing to offer a moreunique choice of colours and textures. Aggregates with a suitability value of 1 can only be incorporated within abound system for areas of foot traffic and prudently theseproducts should be mixed with harder wearing aggregatesto increase the overall performance of the system. ResinBound Systems are recognised as being SUDS compliantand this resin system is also adapted for free draining TreePit Schemes where a larger grade of aggregate is used.
Bonded Resin SystemsA bonded system, where the aggregate is scattered directlyonto a top surface of resin, is designed to simulate theappearance of loose gravel with a more rustic texturedfinish. A low maintenance, hard wearing surface is achieved, however the system is laid much more thinly with the top layer of aggregate exposed and only part of the stone bonded within the resin. It is therefore moreimportant to select an aggregate with sufficient wearingproperties for each specific application, particularly in areaswhich may be subjected to vehicular traffic. Please refer to our suitability guide with products requiring a value of 2 or above for this type of system. Resin Bonded Systemsare not SUDS compliant.

Aggregates and Sandsfor Resin Flooring
As associate members of FeRFA we work closely with the UK’s resinflooring companies to supply a variety of decorative finishes for usewithin interior or exterior resin flooring applications. The aggregates usedin any flooring system are often the most critical, yet underestimated
part of the system, providing strength, colour and often physical properties that are pre-requisite to ensure the lifespan of the resin floor finish. As almost any of our driedaggregates can be utilised to create an exposed, decorative, hard wearing, functionalfinish, it is imperative to seek technical advice to ascertain which aggregates are suitedto which systems (FeRFA types 1-8). Fine grade sands are used within resin flooring or car park decking systems as they provide a textured surface which serves as anintegral key between the layers. Please see our range of kiln dried sands suited toflooring on page 17 & 18.

Renders and MortarsThe addition of our pure white dolomite ensures maximum light reflectance is achieved, together with long term colourfastness when forming the basis of a white render. These white granules and powders also help to form strong fresh colours when used with pigments to producecoloured renders as opposed to the dullness associated with ordinary Portland cements. Similar qualities are ensured when combined with paints and mortars toincrease brightness and whiteness values. Product Size 0-1mm, 0-2mm & 1-2mm
