We are Saana ja Olli.

Saana ja Olli as a company started in the2008 as we realised that the current market was lacking in sustainably produced interior textiles we liked, and proceeded to fill this void with our products.

In our Hamppu = Hemp –line we use 100 %European hemp fabrics. We want to provide an environmentally friendly option as compared to mass produced cotton, and aim to improve the image of hemp and make it more appealingto the consumers of today. We bring forth the ecological benefits of the material in a modern way.

Our goal is durable quality in the form of timeless and functional products. The aim is to consume sustainably and respect life, our environment and ourselves

We like to keep things transparent and local.

Our printing takes place in Aitoo (population:403) and sewing in Keikyä (population: 2862). Parts of these processes are also carried out in our hometown Turku.

We promise to produce locally and we take this right down to the smallest detail: our la-bels and tags, cushion and pot holder fillings, strings, and printing materials are produced in Finland.

By doing so we want to support the heritage of Finnish textile industry and employ pro-fessionals from our native country. By keep-ing the production in Finland we know the work is carried out in high quality and that the employees have a safe and enjoyable working environment and receive a proper wage and benefits.

The closest countries to Finland who pro-duce high quality hemp fabrics are Hungary and Romania. In order to minimize carbon emissions our fabrics are transported from the factory to our home town Turku by land.

Because Finland unfortunately does not grow hemp for textiles, we use highquality hemp fabrics produced in Europe and carry out the rest of the process locallyin Finland.

Five reasons for us to use 100% European hemp fabrics

1. Growing hemp requires no synthetic fertilisers, irrigation or herbicides.

2. Hemp gives a generous crop; Hemp gives twice as large a crop from the sameharvested area as cotton and six times larger a crop than linen.

3. Hemp turns carbon dioxide into oxygen more efficiently than other plants and thus belongs to the group of C4 plants. Growing hemp counteracts global warming.

4. Growing hemp has a positive effect on the soil. It improves soil quality and with its roots hemp also fights erosion.

5. European hemp undergoes only minimal treatment thus producing longer and more durable fibres.
