using technologies?

How is quality assured and enhanced in UK HEIs?

• UK Quality Code for Higher Education (QAA) Launched in Dec 2011, will replace Academic Infrastructure in 2012/13

• Part A – Setting and maintaining threshold academic standards

• Part B – Assuring and enhancing academic quality

• Part C – Information about higher education provision

• Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) (QAA)

• Subject benchmark statements (QAA)

• Other relevant frameworks include: Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)

Caroline

How is quality assured and enhanced in UK HEIs?

• Institutional Review is the new review process for higher education institutions in England and Northern Ireland.

University of Salford is undergoing Institutional Review in 2012/13 New review method places a greater emphasis on the Student Voice and

now includes a Lead Student Representative from the Institution and a Student Reviewer on the Review Team.

• Audit of Collaborative Provision looks at how institutions with degree awarding powers maintain the standards of their awards delivered at other colleges or organisations.

• Integrated quality and enhancement review (IQER) is the review method for higher education delivered in further education colleges.

Caroline

• Funding bodies, e.g. Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) now Research Excellence Framework (REF).

• Appointed agents, e.g. IPSOS/MORI National Student Survey.

• Statutory bodies, e.g. Nursing and Midwifery Council and Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA).

• Professional bodies, e.g. Engineering Council Law Society and Bar Council.

• Accrediting agencies, e.g. AACSB and EFMD

• League tables, e.g. Financial Times, Guardian, Independent and Times Higher

What other forms of quality assurance and enhancement affect UK HEIs?
