The Actual Site

Hiedelberg Road Bridge, a brief walk from Dight Falls.

A thoroughfare; a means of getting to another place, both above on the road and below on the path. A space were nature and man could meet, but decide against it.

Hidden beauty.

Interations / Inspiration

The Concept

The Concept

Materiality To summarise the design, it is a lofted surface inspired by the loft lines of Hiedelberg

Road, Merri Creek and an Aboriginal representation for water.

The hexagon shape is firstly inspired by a case study hexagonal facade in Germany. However, to me it represents a patternable geometry that summarises the situation

perfectly; the hexagon is a shape that is natural, yes. It is seen in a bee’s honeycomb, rock formations, plant arrangements.

But it is a shape that looks synthetic, one that it commonly used in a fabricated environment. These hexagons create the connection between the human and the

natural through this logic.

Prototype

Initially the design intent was to repurpose material for the design. Clear plastic waste was found on site, however in small quantities. I went from there out to

salvage some more of that material from recyclables elsewhere. This intent was stuned by the material properties and effects, thus a similar plastic material has

been selected for further prototyping.

Beside a 1:2 portion of the concept has been created in a polyproplyene mesh style. While this process is still continuing, I have been exploring materail properties in

relation to flexibility, aesthetic qualities and the ability to be fabricated.

In further experimentation, the infill elements are to experimented with, to decide whether or not a design solution could be within.
