Come and walk through the Japanese Garden on a guided tour! Our docents describe the differentiating aesthetics
and design of Japanese gardens, explain the various arti-facts and architectural styles present, and detail the botany and wildlife living within the garden. Tours open to the public will be
held the second Tuesday of every month and will depart from in-side the admissions gate at 10:00 am.
The next tours are on November 10, December 8, and January 12.
No reservations are required and you are welcome to join in or drop out any time during the 90 minute tour.

WELCOME TO THE 42ND FALL FESTIVAL The land for the Japanese Garden was purchased in 1963. Ten years of planning, clearing, and construction was completed be-fore the Garden was opened for visitors on March 29, 1973. Kingsley Wu, professor of environmental living at Texas Women’s University, prepared the final specifications for the Jap-anese Garden. Soon, trucks & crews began to haul the remains of two wars, a cavalry club, trash, and more to the city dump. By 1970 the ponds were completed. A waterfall, spillway, and island were fashioned in and around the pools. From 1970-1973 the Meditation Garden (Karesansui), the Tea House Complex (Pavilion), Tea House, Moon Deck and Pago-da were constructed. All labor was performed by Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department personnel. In 1976, an impressive Main Entrance Gate designed by Albert Komatsu was added. Mr. Komatsu is responsible for most of the shrine-like structures in the garden. The Treasure Tree Gift Shop designed by Jim Bransford was added in 1985. The new accessible walkway located on the west bounda-ry of the garden connects the Japanese Garden entrance to the Pavilion and Moon Viewing Deck. It was completed in 2013. The Japanese Garden has been a growing tribute to the many individuals, clubs, collective organizations and foundations who contributed greatly toward its construction, development and management.
