4

What is an illusion?

5

An illusion is something that doesn’t really exist.

6

An animated cartoon is an example of an illusion. The eye sees moving pictures, but in reality the movement is a combination of many motionless frames.

7

Can you see the profiles of both a vase and two heads?

8

When you focus on the black you cansee the profiles of two faces. When you focus on the white you can see a vase.

9

Make sure what you read is what you see!

10

The illusions we just observed were drawn by artists. But

illusions can also be produced by magic.

11

Name as many magic tricks as you can.• a disappearing Act• a sword Act• a handkerchief trick• a trick with a coin• a trick with a card• a trick with handcuffs• a trick with an animal

12

If you want to be a successful magician, you should follow a few basic rules. Let’s see what these basic rules are.

13

Remember a good magician• keeps the secret a secret.• does the trick only once.• practices before he performs.

14

Match the type of magician to the picture:

• Sword Swallower

• Fire Eater• Escape Artist• Mentalist

15

There is no doubt that Houdini is the most famous magician in history. His ability to get out of seemingly impossible situations made him a legend in his own time.

16

What was Houdini most famous for?

a.his impossible situationsb.his ability to escape c.his legendsd.his questions

17

It was the “Handcuff King” trick that made Houdini famous. There was no one “secret” to Houdini’s ability to escape from handcuffs. He used a combination of technical knowledge, physical skill, and trickery.

18

Houdini collected and studied locks all of his life. He claimed that he had “photographic eyes” that helped him remember how each lock worked and could be opened.

19

Houdini escaped because He had good eyes He remembered how

each lock worked He had the key He had collected locks all his life

20

Houdini wrote in his book “Handcuff Secrets”:“Remember it is not the trick

itself that is important, but the

style and manner in which it is

presented.”
